| Country Cowboys 4-H Club |
The following information is for all members and families as to what is needed, required and necessary to help our club run smoothly during the year and at Fair. Attendance As leaders, we feel commitment is important in any endeavor. We feel that 75% of the project meetings MUST be attended to be eligible to participate at Fair. You MUST attend SUMMER meetings with your project animals. You must call to be excused. Meetings can be made up by attending another porject area meeting if arrangements are made with Project Leader. Calls may be made to Cathy Nitschke 887-1178 (Key Leader) or one of your Project Leaders. Dues and State Participation Fee Dues are $10.00/member, $5.00/explorer this year. This includes a 3 ring binder (that has been donated by several companies) for handouts during school year and project work done at meetings. Your dues include crafts, paper, copying & postage, etc. Dues must be paid before craft. The State Participation fee is $10.00/member with a cap of $30.00/family. There are waiver forms - See Cathy MN if interested in applying. Community Service Projects Urban 4-H Fair, KSRP Rideathon, Christmas Caroling at retirement homes, KSRP Spring Clean Up. Workshops Any member interested in attending workshops at Kettunen Center may do so. The cost is about $30.00 - $50.00 depending on the length of workshop. It is your responsibility. Fee is payable to Kent/MSU Extension Service. To go we must also sign up Chaperones with our members. Any parent that would be willing to chaperon just has to fill out a form and have a criminal check done. We are always in desperate need of MALE chaperones for our male members. Currently the 4-H Council reimburses $25.00 if you attend a workshop. Fund Raisers We will have candy bar fund raiser for any one wanting to of-set the cost of fees. This will start at Project meetings. We are open to suggestions. We also do a couple of concessions at KFNO shows. Last year we operated at the fairgrounds and we held a whole weekend at Sparta Town and Country Days. Families donate items toward the concessions. We ask all families in the club to participate in these fund raisers. Mentors Any member interested in being a mentor for an Explorer is encouraged. Mentors in the horse area need to be 18 years of age and older. Mentors in other project areas need to be 13 years old & be willing to help teach your Explorer how to handle & show their animal. All areas have Explorers. Committees All parents MUST (please) sign up for one fair preparation committee and are also expected to help in their child's project area during the shows. Fair Preparation Committees Booth Decorations, Booth Set up & Tear Down, Club Decorations/Plaques, Horse Set Up & Tear Down, Sawdust - Bring & spread at fairgrounds Fair Committees Clerking/Judging-Still Exhibits (Sat), Security - Still Exhibit Area (2 hr shift), Dog Show - Saturday & Tuesday, Horse Area - All week (1 4hr. shift: ALL jobs at arena), Rabbit Area - Monday and Tuesday & Barn Duty Camping Leaders need to know the families that are planning on camping by the PREMIUM Statement Meeting (Fee needs to be paid by then too) Meals Each family needs to help provide a meal at fair. This helps tremendously. It also gives us a break from the hustle & bustle of Fair. It also gives all of us a little social time to enjoy each other's company (but only a little). We usually feed about 100 people (your whole family is always invited to dine with us.) We will fill out a chart before Fair so we know how many are eating at each meal. KSRP Ride-a-Thon September/October We get pledges. We camp as a club at Ionia State Recreation Area. We do meals similar to Fair. AND we all ride the trails and have fun. In 2008 we were HIGH Pledge 4-H Club (again-8X) Safety ALL animals need to be able to be kept under control to be allowed to attend Fair. Any animal deemed unsafe by Leaders will not be allowed to attend Fair. Fair Club Booth - Each family needs to pick up their projects. Usually parents packing up booth will sort projects into a box if you provide them with one. Your box will need to be picked up at the Booth Area. Rabbits and cavies must be removed from cages in Rabbit barn early AM Sun-so cages can be taken down. Horse stalls need to be cleaned before members leave with their horses. Cathy needs to inspect your stall before you leave-she is really picky. This is so we don't lose any premiums or get yelled at. |
