"He broke the vow, Max...total violation..." "Maria..." "Max..." "You're not gonna tell Liz..." "Why are you thinking about it anyways? You act like she's gonna go all Chucky or Macauley-Culkin-Good-Son on you or something. Not likely. It's been years since that happened." "But there's a lot of scary hormone stuff in the air right now..." "Scary hormone stuff? Are you referring to me and Tess? Is that what you're doing? "Look, it's just, you weren't around at lunch today. You people are crazy. All of you. And now Kyle and Michael have some-" "What? Kyle and Michael. In the same sentence? What's going on?" "Nothing." "Max..." "Nothing. Can't talk about it. It's the code or something." "The code. Guys don't have a clue about the code. Spill it." "No." "I'll help you on this chemistry lab if you don't spill it. And I haven't even read what it's about, so I'll be winging it..." Max Evans had no choice. Not any real choice. If he didn't spill it to Maria, then she'd help with the lab experiment. And the last time she helped...they had to redo it after school. With supervision. Michael was going to kill him. But, he resolved, he'd just tell him that Maria dragged it out of him in Chemistry. Plus, he knew that Michael had no hope regarding giving Maria probation, so... "Please do not touch the equipment." "Speak now or accept the fact that we're gonna be here after school." "Michael and Kyle are going to turn the tables on you and Tess." "Wait a second. Do you mean that my clueless boyfriend and Chia are going to try and put us on probation?" "Yes." "Chia's brilliant plan, no doubt." "Probably." "And they tried to recruit you and Alex, didn't they?" "Yes. But we're abstaining." "Pulling a Switzerland, huh?" "Yes. Now can we finish the experiment?" "Go ahead, Bill Nye Science Guy." While Max worked on their Chemistry experiment, Maria began to devise ways of torturing her boyfriend. She even devised ways for Tess to torture Kyle. War had been declared. And the boys, she felt, had no idea what they were getting themselves into. And Max just groaned. * * * * * |
