"What are you talking about?" "Probation. Tess has me on probation." The one referred to as Guerin was actually laughing. "Shut up, Guerin. It's not funny. I went from lots of action to cold turkey. In five seconds flat. And your wacky, crazy little girlfriend is at fault. If she hadn't told Tess-" "What did you do?" "That's not the point here. The point here is Maria had to go open her big mouth-" "It's what she does best. I repeat, what did you do?" "Why do you want to know?" "I can probably tell you how long you're going to be on, if that helps." "If that helps? No, what would help is if you kept your 'parole officer' away from Tess!" "What are you freaking out about, Kyle?" "Nothing, Whitman." "Tess put him on probation." "And you thought I was joking when I told you to watch out. Maria is persuasive... So what did you do?" "He's not telling us." "He's not telling us what?" "Nothing." "Tess put him on probation and he's all pissy at me because he thinks it's Maria's fault." "I don't think it's Maria's fault. I know it's her fault. She had to go tell Tess about it and-" "So what did you do, Kyle?" "Evans, man, that is not the point. The point is simple: Maria is dangerous to my relationship with Tess and must be kept away at all costs. You should keep her away from your girlfriends, too." "Kyle, you do realize you are talking about one of my best friends. The other of whom happens to be Max's girlfriend. And good friend to my own girlfriend." "Sure, Valenti, we can keep her away from Tess. Max, you have first watch." "What?" "Geez, Evans. Even I knew he was kidding!" "So, Chia, what did you do to get on probation?" "Oh...like I should be called "Chia" after what they call you..." "What are you talking about?" "Oh, nothing "Wet Basset Hound" or something like that. Maria has so many names for your hair that I can't keep up." "Wet Basset Hound" eyes Alex, then Max. "Hey, I learned long ago not to say anything about your hair." "Shut up, Maxwell. Alright Alex, spit it out. What's she been saying about my hair?" "You want me to tell you what Hurricane has been saying about your hair? Um, I'll pass. I do value my life." "Really? You're scared of Maria?" "Michael, you're scared of Maria." "I said to shut up. You aren't one to talk. You don't have these problems. Liz is the perfect girlfriend." "I have to disagree with you there, Michael." "You can't be serious, Whitman. Isabel has you on a leash...even tighter than old Evans here." "I am not on Liz's leash! And, Kyle, I'm not the one on probation." "Which brings me back to my original point. You. Guerin. Keep Maria away from Tess. Because of Maria, I don't get to see the inside of the Eraser Room today." "Wouldn't see it anyways, Valenti. My probation ended yesterday." "Congratulations, Michael." "Thank you, Alex." "Kyle, what did you do to have Tess put you on probation?" "He's not telling, Maxwell. I offered to help him, you know, let him know how long he'd be on-" "Oh shut up, both of you. This "probation" thing sucks!" "Then, my advice Valenti, is don't piss her off." And with that, Guerin left the group and headed towards a door labeled "Eraser Room." "That Maria girl" soon followed. "I knew he wouldn't help me. I mean, look at him. His action is entering the Eraser Room as we speak." "Kyle...why won't you tell us what you did?" "Because, Whitman, that's not the point." "Oh. And the point is..." "Evans, the point is that before Maria talked to Tess on Saturday, things were fine. Then, on Sunday, things were not fine. I couldn't even watch the game I was so pissed off." "Poor Kyle." "Watch it, Whitman. It could happen to you next." "No, it couldn't. Isabel doesn't believe in probation. She's told me so." "She's a girl, Whitman. Fickle. They change their minds all the time. Be careful." "Kyle, while I'm sure that Alex appreciates your, uh, warning-" Max's statement was cut off by the ringing of the school bell. Valenti looked to Evans and Whitman. "Well, gotta get to class." Evans and Whitman watched him leave, each laughing. "It must have been pretty big if he's not even going to tell us what it is." "I have sources, Max." "Huh?" "Who do you think Tess told after Maria?" "Isabel." "That's right." "So, Alex..." "I'll have the story by lunchtime." * * * * * |
