We persuaded Dad to  give us a ride in his old truck - its a 1949 Dodge.  There was me, Char, Marty, Tracey,
Dino Tambures, Vanessa Spenser and Tsambika Klimantis.   [Man, we LOVED to ride in Dads old truck.] He agreed to take us to Dairy Queen tomorrow if everyone brings his own money for ice cream.   [The next day:]

Dad kept his promise and took us to Dairy Queen today, but this time Mom, Kirk,
Lisa Tsigaris and her brother Bobby came too.   [Im sure Mom rode up front, and Kirk, since he was a baby, so that made nine of us in the back of the pickup!]

Char bought a second-hand 3-speed bike for $55.  Speaking of prices, theyre going up and up, for everything.  Gasoline is about 55 cents a gallon now, and it was only in the 30s at the beginning of the year.  Bread is up to 40 cents a loaf, and sugar went up 40 cents this month alone!  [
Wish it was that now!]

Tracey left for 6th grade camp today, at Whitewood.  I dont think thats the one we went to [
for our 6th grade camp].  We had so much fun.  There were classes from about six different schools, and we had assigned seats at meals, so we sat with kids from all the schools.  Jim Gibson and I were the only ones from Laird [Aveune Elementary School] at our table.  Our class (Mr. Kokers) tied for first place in the trailblaze, where you follow Indian signs to find hidden numbered papers.  Jim Tambures found most of ours.  One night the boys threw a giant frog in our cabin and we all screamed.  On the second night the camp director had to come in and yell at us to go to sleep.  We sure had a good time!

School is boring already. Math and history are my favorite classes, because of Mr. Hahn and Mr. Lacy.  I dont really care for math but it comes pretty easy to me, so its not so bad.  History I love.  Ive liked it since 8th grade when I had American History with Mr. Rider.   I guess he was enough to make anyone hate history, but somehow I didnt mind.  He made it a challenge to learn all that stuff, and while I learned it I got to like it.  He gave us an exam every Friday - 180 questions which he read aloud and we wrote down the answers.  It went so fast we had to come to class with our sheets of paper already numbered, because we didnt have time to number them as we went along.  And woe to you if you numbered wrong, because if you had the right answers but in the wrong spot, Mr. Rider didnt care.  At least most of the questions repeated from week to week, so you already knew them.  [
Wow!  I still remember that!  And I bet I still could answer a lot of those questions, after being drilled in them so many times. Of course, the first several weeks of school there wasnt enough material for 180 questions, but once we worked our way up to that number, it never decreased.]

We heard there was a fight at Reserve [
Western Reserve High School] today.  The story is that yesterday three black guys got shot at and apparently they didnt think enough was being done about it and decided to get their own justice in school today.  It started a race riot in the school!  School was closed and the sophomore football game between Harding and Reserve was cancelled.

I was at Georgias, and
Peggy Panagis came over.  She told us about the Earth Shoes she just got.  The heel is lower than the toes - its supposed to be better for you.  Peggy said when she tried them on at the store and stood up in them for the first time - she fell over backward!  The clerk laughed at her.  She says shes used to them now, though.  The funniest things happen to that girl.  Shes something else!   [Earth shoes!  Thats the 70s for you!  If they were so good for us, why dont we still have them?]

When
Rick Hart came in [to trigonometry class], everyone joked about his fancy duds.  Paul Kowalczyk suggested Rick model for us, so Rick stood on a desk and turned around a few times.  He was wearing a black turtleneck with white stitching, his red basketball jacket, bright red plaid pants, red socks and shiny red platform shoes. He was a sight! [I can still picture that, but I dont know if thats a good thing!]
Okay, I just started at the beginning and copied stuff from my journals that was meaningful to me.  Don't feel you have to wade through all of it!  So, have a stroll down memory lane, and enjoy!
