| With the celebration of Martin Luther King's Birthday upon us, it seemed fitting for me to discuss his life and his dreams. Through the life and death of this one man, he changed Civil Rights in this great nation of ours. Most remarkably the changes that took place were not through violence , but through passive resistance. His motivation was one of love not hate. Because of the inspirational speakings and actions of this one man, others were motivated to effect change. They did this by standing up in the face of hatred and bigotry, with a non-violent defiance stating " This is wrong". Through the actions of Martin Luther King and those brave individuals who followed him, mountains were moved. I liken us all to grains of sand on the beach. Each grain, if you were to pick it up and examine it, is unique. Alone one grain of sand cannot change the landscape, but if united, the sands become a powerful force able to, literally, move mountains. Martin Luther King was just one grain of sand. It was his uniqueness that inspired others to move with him. His clarity, vision , logic and love for man- kind were indeed the winds that effected change. His inspirational voice of reason motivated others to shake off the apathy they had become comfortable with, and begin a crusade for what was right. The movement began small, with just a few grains of sand moving forward. Then as his vision became stronger, like the wind, others followed, creating a unstopable force that would eventually change the landscape. We all have a responsibility to continue to move the mountain which began with Dr. Martin Luther King. We must continue to stand up for what is right, disregarding race, gender or ethnic origin. Support those that are being mistreated, and help others to impower themselves. Most importantly in order to continue to fulfill this dream, we must not hate those that continue to oppress others, but rather love the person or ideal in which we are defending. For in my humble opinion, it is those with a pure heart that will eventually reign victorious. Check out this link for more on Dr. Martin Luther King |
