"Grandmom,  the Halloween party is Saturday night and I don't have a
costume. What am I going to do?"  My natural response was make one.
Let me bring you back a couple of decades to times gone bye.  Halloween
was a big deal, something we kids looked forward to from the time the first fall
leaf hit the ground.  Long hours were spent pondering, thinking up just the right
theme for that magical night.  Once the choice was made, that was only the start of
the challenge. Items were gathered, that would give just the right effect for that
perfect Halloween outfit.  Not a thing was left unturned, from rummaging in the
far back of Mom's closet to hunting up that box of grandmom's old clothes. When
finished, the theme was evident from the hat on our head, to the shoes on our feet.
Oh, and of course, there were accessories, lots of accessories and make-up to
enhance the effect.  By the time the night arrived, we were so excited we could
hardly wait for it to get dark, so we could begin our quest for the bag of goodies.
And, not only did we create our theme and build our costume, from scratch, we
also provided entertainment in each home we visited.  The entertainment was
either a song or a dance and usually done with your closest friend. A friend who
shared your excitement, helped compose the song and dance and joined in
practicing many times before the Halloween debut.
Kids today are very bright, but opportunities are lost to build their
imagination and creativity. Just mix one young mind, a little imagination
and creativity and you will see the possibilities are endless. From one kid who
remembers that the planning and anticipation of Halloween was more than half the
fun. So again, in response to the question posed by my granddaughter it remains
        the same,  yes, make one..
