BEVERAGES & FOOD

"O'pzaft"

This is Bavarian for "It is Tapped".  This  phrase  is said  by the Mayor of Munich to officially start Oktoberfest.

Beer is a major part of german culture.  In towns like Hallertauer and Saaz it is common to see hops outside of residences and businesses.    So one might, at the biggest  beer event in the world, all of the beer manufactures in Germany would be there.  However this is not the case.  Only six of the Munich beer manufacturers are allowed to have tents at this event .  They are: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräuhaus, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, and Spaten.  A special beer called Märzenbier (March beer), is also served.

Aside from beer consumption, food is also a major part of Oktoberfest.
The main foods at Oktoberfest fest include

Hendl=> Chicken

  The chickens are roasted on a spit and usually
sold in havles.

Schweins-hax'n =>Roasted Pork(Pig)  Knuckles

Brined overbighted, then roasted on spit.  Pork knuckles are full of flavor.
Sausage, Bratwurst , Suaerkraut

 Sausages are apart of almost every erman meal.
Spaetzle => Cheese Noodles

A very hearty and tasty dish.

Brezn=>Pretzel

Many Americans think these larger than life Bavarian pretzels that have
become a part of our culture, originated in Germany.  The truth is, the
originated in Italy.
