It takes a little work to get to Rock Island, WI. First you have to drive to the tip of Door County, at North Pier take a vehicle ferry across Porte des Mortes (Death Door) Passage to Washington Island. Once you drive across Washington Island you need to park your car and hop on a passenger-only ferry to cross over to Rock Island, which is the last island of Door County.

The entire island is a State Park where vehicles and bicycles are prohibited.

A 1.5 mile walk from the ferry will bring you to the Potawatomi Lighthouse.
The Potawatomi Lighthouse is on the northern tip of the island, a 1.5 mile walk from the ferry landing, through the woods down a maintenance two-lane dirt path.

The Lighthouse was built in 1836 and is Wisconsin's oldest lighthouse.

There are 10 miles of trails that run through and around the island for hiking and camping.
The beach along the base of the cliff which the lighthouse is built upon is very rocky, and it's impossible to see the lighthouse from this point, it's simply too high above. It took a few stairs and a steep hike down a hill to get to this point from the lighthouse.
Looking back at Washington Island from Rock Island as the sun starts to set while we wait for the passenger ferry to pick us up.
