Flambeau International Sled Dog Classic

2004 was the Fourth Annual Sled Dog Classic in Park Falls, WI, and there was plenty of snow this year, with a fresh 8 packy inches the day before, there was a nice  12-30 inch base. One hundred mushers arrived from all over WI, MN, MI, OH, NY and Ontario, Canada. Saturday, the amateurs raced, and the Pros raced on Sunday.

Kirk Feller of Verona, WI took first in the Six Dog Pro. First in the sSix-Dog Pro Class was Jill Biggs of Kakabek Falls, ONT. And first in the Four-Dog Pro Class was Jay Olmstead Jr of Sinclairville, NY. The Flambeau International Sled Dog Classic is the second-largest sled dog race in the lower 48, the newspaper said. The captions all came from the 26 Feb 04 edition of the Park Falls Herald.
Erika Seifert of Rosscommon, MI on her way to place 10th overall in the Six-Dog Pro Class.
"It was a snowy finish Sunday for junior musher Ben Barylski, who came in fifth overall in the Four-Dog Sport Class."
"Junior musher Laura Pechacek crossed the finish line with her... team, including Dale in the rear, Bowler at left and Taz 'The Maniac' at right. She came in fifth in the three-dog event."
"Paul Riegert of Ely, MN, provided some race trail drama in the Six-Dog Pro event Saturday as he prepared to pass Alexia 'Bear' Valitchka of Green Bay. Riegert placed sixth overall in the Six-Dog Pro class, and Valitchka placed eighth."
