The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) today announced that Jayne Even, a 6-0 senior forward from North Dakota State, has been named the Rawlings/WBCA Division II Player of the Year. WBCA presents this award annually to the top players in each of the five WBCA collegiate divisions (Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and JC/CC) at its National Convention, held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four.
"Jayne has had an outstanding career at North Dakota State University, both athletically and academically. Her credentials both on and off the court speak for themselves," said WBCA Executive Director Beth Bass. "We are extremely pleased to present Jayne with the Rawlings/WBCA Player of the Year award, and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Even recently led the Bison to the program's to the NCAA Division II Final Four with a 27-3 record. She became the fifth NDSU player to earn North Central Conference Player of the Year honors. Even completed the conference season No. 1 in scoring (22.6 ppg), No. 2 in rebounding (9.5 rpg), No. 3 in steals (2.33 spg), No. 4 in free throw percentage (80.0%) and No. 6 in three-point field goal percentage (40.3%). She is a two-time All-NCC first-team selection. Even claimed the NCAA scoring title, averaging 22.1 points per game and is only the second NDSU player to accomplish this feat. She currently ranks eighth on the NDSU all-time scoring chart with 1,443 points. On the Bison career charts she is also tied for No. 2 in three-pointers made (117), No. 3 in three-point field goals attempted (304), No. 8 in steals (168) and No. 10 in blocked shots (58). Academically she has been named to the GTE Academic All-District VII and NCC All-Academic first teams.
The Rawlings/WBCA Player of the Year Award is selected by the ten-member Rawlings/WBCA Player of the Year Committee chaired by Patty Dick, Washburn University, and consists of one WBCA-member head coach from each of the eight WBCA Division II Districts. Even will be formally presented this year to the WBCA coaches and convention registrants at the Rawlings/WBCA Player of the Year Luncheon on Friday, March 31, at the Grand Ballroom in the Philadelphia Marriott. The Rawlings/WBCA Player of the Year banquet is part of the 2000 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four in Philadelphia.

The top 10 women's basketball players from the Division II were named to the 2000 NCAA Division II Kodak All-America Women's Basketball team on March 21. This prestigious 10-member squad, highlighted by two-time winner Darcy Stracke of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, was selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
