LADY HORNET EMILY BLOSS NAMED NCAA D-II PLAYER OF THE YEAR
EMPORIA, KANSAS (April 3, 2001)--Add Division II Player of
the Year to the honors bestowed on Emporia State’s Emily Bloss as
she was named the Daktronics, Inc. Division II Women’s Basketball
Player of the Year today. Bloss was earlier named a Kodak
All-American and the Verizon College Division Academic All-American
of the Year.
Bloss
was a unanimous first team All-MIAA selection and the MIAA Most
Valuable Player in 2000-01 and was named first team All-South
Central Region. She led the MIAA in scoring at 20.6 points per game
and was among MIAA leaders in five categories. She holds ESU career
records in steals (302), FT made (499) and FT Attempted (669) and is
second on ESU’s career scoring list with 1,915 points, fourth in
career rebounds with 823, and second in career FG made with 709.
Bloss
led the Hornets to a 29-2 record and NCAA South Central Regional
runner-up finish in 2001. The Lady Hornets were 120-10 in her four
years at Emporia State and became the first school to win four
straight MIAA regular season and Postseason Tournament
Championships.
Bloss
has a 3.95 GPA in health promotion and was recently named to the
MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the third time and has
been named Academic All-MIAA on three occasions in basketball or
track. She has been a member of the ESU Athletic Director’s Honor
Roll each semester at Emporia State.
She
is the second straight Lady Hornet to be honored as the Player of
the Year, following former teammate Tara Holloway’s selection in
1999-2000.
The

is a native of Wellsville and the daughter of Ronald and Janice
