In the early morning hours of July the 8th a storm hit southern West Virgina.

Washington Post article
Although rain fell statewide, the storm was said to be biblical in nature south of the New River Gorge. I was in Pocahantas County where only one inch of rain fell.  6.7 inches were reported at the Beckley airport, Fayetteville reported 8 inches.  A resident of Beckwith that I spoke with said he had an empty five gallon bucket in his yard which filled to overflowing during the storm.  This is in the period of time between 4am and 11am Sunday.

Scott Ware of the Rivermen, who was on an overnight Saturday night said, "It was like the Gorge was collapsing in on us.  There was a wave coming out of Keeneys Creek that was kicking up so high you could run a gear boat under it.  The creek above Millers Folly which is usually only a few feet wide was 70 feet wide.  I watched a chunk of Fayette Station Rd float away.  It was unreal."
As soon as I had a chance, I went out with my camera.  Here is some of what I saw.
