Assignment 5, Part 2

Discussion with my partner, Sung min, Yoon

My partner and I looked at the two sites that we liked,
A guide to classic mystery and detection and Cars.com.
In our comparison we noticed these features of good web design in both sites.
  1. Purposeful: Both sites had a clear purpose;
    As the titles show, the first one is about mystery and detective pieces and the latter about dealing cars.

  2. Information: Very informative;
    The information on mystery and detective pieces on the first site goes into depth satisfying the visitors immensely. The latter one although it lacks boards for direct reviews, also contains most neccessary information.

  3. Organization: Distinctively, Clearly classified, also eases navigation;
    The first site on classic mystery has a certain order, such as classification by era, as you roll down. The cars site has a neat structure that makes it impossible to miss the information you're looking for.

  4. Simplicity: Elimination of unessential elements;
    The first site rather too simple but straight to the point caught my partner's attention because of that quality, and the latter uses the least of appropriate graphics and boxes for the anticipated effect.

Then we looked at the two sites that we did not like,
MysteryNet.com and Silica Gel: Do Not Eat.
In our comparison we noticed these problems.
  1. Use of space:
    The Mysterynet site wastes too much space. Using only part of the space given, the content is stuffed into and scattered around the remaining part.

  2. Color: Misuse of color;
    The Mysterynet site uses unneccessary colors to cover up its weak organization and content. The Silica Gel site used the wrong color for the text. The color orange tires human eyes easily.

  3. Information: Deviation from the original purpose;
    The first site gives out information most mystery lovers already know, not helping much to satisfy the needs to learn and know more. The latter doesn't contain much information at first place, and moreover it has irrelevant contents to alleviate the ignorancy it bears.

  4. Organization: No certain order; The Silica Gel site, has no certain order whatsoever. It makes it hard to perceive the purpose of this site, plus it gives visitors hard time wondering how to navigate.
