Yesterday i couldn't sleep so i turned on the TV, 2:30 in the morning i turned on to channel 4 and saw that there was some footy on, i later found out that it was American football, (soccer) "close enough" i said, so i decided to watch it. It was a Major League Soccer, All Star game. I'm sick of this is football, not soccer. Why is it the Americans who have to be different? Anyway the match started, i knew 4 players who were playing in the game; Cobi Jones, Brian McBride, Carlos Valderrama and Lothar Matthaus. The match began with the east taking a 1-0 lead with in the space of a few minutes. It was a shocking defensive goal to give away. The match continued and with in 5 minutes the west had drawn level. 1-1 through a goal from Carlos Valderrama. The match continued at a less than rapid pace with a few dodgy refereeing decisions and a few "iffy" decisions from the linesman. 3 minutes later west had taken the lead through a fairly decent goal. Then came the bit that had to be one of the worst bits of commentary ever. West went 3-1 up and in response to this one of the American commentators said "That was a great goal! for a big man, he just touched that in". When in actual fact all he did was kick the ball into an empty net. This is where i come to my next point, the fans. The commentators are going on about how great the atmosphere is but the fans don't cheer for goals, contest any decisions or lead any chants threw out the match. The only time that we see the crowd do anything is when the camera moves on to the crowd and we see 61% of those "fat" Americans stuffing there faces. (sorry, sorry for the stereotype, i apologise to the 39% of the healthy Americans). Anyway the match continued it was 3-1 to west but with in the space of 5 minutes the east were level again threw to goals from a very tall player, sorry, dont know his name :(. But every time there's a tall player on the ball the American commentators say "oh it looks like big momma's got the ball". Big momma? ...i'll leave that one there. The match was approaching half-time but there was still time for just one more goal to excite the crowd. West went into the half-time break 4-3 up. The end of a thoroughly terrible half :p.

The players came out from the half-time interval, Valderrama and Matthaus both flinging there zimmmers out of the way and sprinting on to the pitch...10 minutes later the second half kicked off, there was one half time substitute for the east. Marco Etchverry came on for number 99. (sorry, i dont know his name) The match kicked of and on the 50 minute mark east drew level threw a travesty of a clearence from one of the defenders. This was the least of there problems an "injury stricken" Lothar Matthaus left the field to be replaced by another person i din't know but i know this players number, 99. The match continued it was picking up a bit of pace now and after 70 minutes the east had stormed into a 7-4 lead, despite Marco Etchverry missing an absaloute sitter for the ast, well thats American football (soccer) for you. On came two players one paying quite a bit of resembelnce to Rangers star Tore Andre Flo and the other paying more resemblence to Nobby Styles than anyone. The match ended in typical shocking fashion another two sitters missed by Etchverry, a load of dodgy refereeing decisions, a few more iffy offside decisions and of course...2 more goals to the east. Ending score East 9 West 4. If this is an all-star game then I'd like to see a normal game. I bet that a pub team from England could probably stick a few passed either of these teams.

After the game Matthaus and Valderrama helped themselves to a nice hot chocolate and a sponge bath. They were then returned to home.
