Here are a few photos from around the 7-county region. They may be termini, they may be historically significant, or more than likely, they just point out oddities. As of this writing, I don't have the ability to just go out to take road pictures, unless a friend drives me. Also, my camera is a cheap film camera, so I often use a friend's digital camera when one is available. When some things in my life improve, I should be able to get better, more thorough photo coverage more quickly.

Note: Mileage is statewide for Interstate routes, and countywide for U.S. and State routes. Milepost data is subject to +/- 1 mile error. Most images presented in 736x414 size, which fits nicely in a browser window at 800x600 resolution, has an aesthetically-pleasing 16:9 ratio, and is very similar in pixelage and bandwidth use to the standard 640x480.

This is the BGS gantry over southbound OH-315, about halfway between Town St and Rich St. Also, this is the posted terminus of OH-315, though the 2/10th milemarkers would suggest the terminus is about .6 miles away. ODOT's straight-line diagrams confirm the latter case.

This sign is posted along the entrance to OH-315 southbound from Rich St. The distance between this entrance ramp and the left exit to I-70 eastbound and I-71 northbound is very short. I once saw a police officer cut across the lanes to make the left exit, but it was late at night and OH-315 was closed north of the entrance ramp, so there was no safety hazard.

This sign (Frank Rd eastbound under I-71) is a bit odd for a couple of reasons. First, diagrammatic signs are relatively rare in Ohio. Second, this is the only instance I'm aware of where a state highway in Ohio (other than looped routes such as I-270) "changes its mind" in whether it's marked as north-south or east-west. Oh, and click here to see what's obscuring the left edge of the sign.

OH-104 eastbound, about a half mile west of its terminus at US-33.

OH-161 (Dublin-Granville Rd) eastbound at OH-710 (Busch Blvd). This is the western terminus of OH-710.

Western terminus of OH-16. Multiplexed with US-40, which does not end here. Intersection is W Broad St at Civic Center Dr in downtown Columbus. At one time, Civic Center Dr caried (S)EB US-33, which is likely why OH-16 ends here.

Intersection of US-23 (High St) and OH-161 (Dublin-Granville Rd) in Worthington. Note that the shield for OH-161 on the signal mast arm is Ohio-shaped, but the shield for the WB reassurance marker is an ellipse.

The EB reassurance marker for OH-161 (Dublin-Granville Rd) after the intersection with US-23 (High St) in Worthington. These elliptical markers are used all along OH-161 through Worthington, except on overhead signs. Apparently Worthington doesn't care much about signage standards; their blade signs (note to self: get photo) are in some fantsy-pants bold serif font, and they include some kind of graphic that looks like a blob when you're driving by at 35MPH.

The new OH-315 / OSU Medical Center ramps, either just prior to or shortly after their opening. Westbound 12th Avenue becomes the OH-315 SOUTH entrance ramp as it crosses Cannon Dr. You can see it crossing the Olentangy River at the bottom of this image. The NB exit ramp crosses the river in the far left of the image, and crosses Cannon Dr to become Medical Center Dr (formerly 9th Ave). This photo was taken from the 15th Floor Lounge in Lincoln Tower, and rain on the window glass was the cause of the poor photo quality.

This goofy little sign assembly is mounted overhead the main road in the parking lot for the Ohio Expo Center (a.k.a. Ohio State Fairgrounds). The EXIT sign appears to be directing traffic to use a particular lane, but I only remember one lane of traffic in that direction. (If there is more than one lane there, they both exit the parking lot.) Also, traffic seeking I-71 should not turn right here, as the sign would suggest. Such traffic should turn right onto 17th Ave just after exiting the gate. I wonder how often ODOT puts up signs for other state facilities without evaluating their proper use...

Here's OH-158 near Kirkersville, looking northwest from the Loop Rd overpass. This segment, running from I-70 at Exit 122 to US-40 about a mile to the northwest, at one time carried I-70 traffic. US-40 is behind an abandoned elevated road grade in the background directly ahead. For several years in the 60's, I-70 ended here, tying in with US-40. The mile-long diagonal stretch is now signed as OH-158, and the former westbound lanes are abandoned. On the same day that I took this photo, Jeff Kitsko did a page on the history of this tie-in, so look for more info (and more photos) here.

OH-158 near Kirkersville again, this time looking southeast from the same vantage point as above. I-70 is just behind the trees in the background directly ahead.
