We are a a non-profit, volunteer organisation dedicated to the protection of the Earth's
remaining rainforests and the indigenous people who depend on them.
The Rainforest Information Centre (RIC) was born out of the successful struggle to save the
sub-tropical rainforests of New South Wales, Australia in the early 1980s. Since then we have
been involved in campaigns and projects which protect rainforests and at the same time
recognise the legitimate development aspirations of rainforest peoples .

This ECOFORESTRY SITE, based at RMIT University, highlights major web sites with information on
ecoforestry relevant to Australians. Ecoforestry principles, policies and practices embody an
ecosystem and community based approach to forest management.

- The Journal Ecoforestry is published through the Ecoforestry Institute Society in Canada,
in partnership with the Ecoforestry Institute of the U.S. Ecoforestry Notes chronicles the work
of the Institute in the U.S.

- International Tropical Timber Organisation
- The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) was created by treaty in 1983 and its
headquarters was established in Yokohama, Japan, in late 1986. The primary idea is to provide an
effective framework for consultation among producer and consumer member countries on all aspects
of the world timber economy within its mandate. Among its multiple objectives is a commitment to
assist members to meet ITTO's unique Year 2000 Objective, which states that by the year 2000 all
tropical timber products traded internationally by Member States shall originate from sustainably
managed forests.

The Australian Rainforest Conservation Society, founded in 1982, is a national, non-government
organisation with headquarters in Brisbane. Its goal, through research, lobbying, public
education and grass-roots support, is to protect, repair and restore the rainforests of
Australia and to maximise the protection of forest biodiversity.
