WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY AT SEA:
1.  Immediately contact the U.S. Coast Guard and describe your situation, vessel description and name, location, names of persons on board and if there are any medical issues.  The Coast Guard can be reached on VHF Channel 16, in some areas cellular phones will call the nearest Coast Guard Station by dialing *24.  Follow Coast Guard Instructions and stand by.

2.  Immediately record your last position on paper in case equipment fails.

3.
All persons should put on PFD's (Personal Floation Devices).

4.  Stay Calm.

5.  Evaluate the situation:  Should certain lights be on?  Should the anchor or sea achor be set?  Should electronics be on or off?

6.  Have emergency equipment readily available:  Life raft, handheld VHF and or Cellular Phone, E-PIRB, Flares, Flare Gun, Throwable Floation Device, Flashlight, Matches, Line, Drinking Water and any other available safety equipment.

7.  Inform the Coast Guard of your situation at least every 30 minutes.

8.  Make sure all persons are seated in a safe location in the vessel and to limit movement as much as possible.
These are appropriate precautionary measures to be taken in the event of an emergency at sea.  By no means is Cumberland Marine Electronics responsible for actions taken per these recomendations.  These instructions are to serve as assistance for what to do.  All vessels should carry required safety equipment as well as at least one reliable communication device.  Check with your local authority or the United States Coast Guard for more information.
