The breeders of CM Sporthorses breeds Quality Cleveland Bay, Warmblood and Coloured Sporthorses for all Olympic Disciplines.  It was their second lot of foals born at their property at Minnipa where my boy was born.  Ceilidh is his mum.

Born on the 2nd October, 2006

History of CM Cullen Eachan from birth....
About 9.30am in the morning Craig went out and had a look at the girls (Michelle had been up at 8.15am and they weren't doing anything Ceil had been restless through the night and up and down a bit so they had an inkling that something was going to happen).

Craig saw Ceils sniffing a wet patch on the ground and though "Hmmm she wouldn't be sniffing pee, that's probably amniotic fluid!".

He hopped through the fence and walked around behind her and had a look - she looked 'normal' and all of sudden a hoof popped out and then popped back in again!! lol....

So Craig yelled out to Michelle to come out cos Ceils was starting to foal.  Bay colt with a pretty big star on his forehead!!  They were very pleased with him.  He's a lovely boy, will be registered Cleveland Bay Sporthorse soon as they figure out a name for him.

He's up, drinking, has pooped and is trotting around happily.

Here is a couple of pictures .....

How did they name him....
They decided to give him the name of CM Cullen Eachan for a couple of reasons....

CM Killarnie Ceilidh has a gaelic name and they name her first foal CM Alina Keely because it is gaelic in origin, and decided long ago that all Ceilidh's foals would have Gaelic or Celtic names.  And they liked their foals to have two part names as well as their CM prefix - they don't know why, but it just seems to roll off the tongue better with a two part name.

Last year's foals they decided to stick with having the first letter of the mare's name be the first letter of the foal's name which all worked well till they had Tadpole born to Folly - but with his big sperm shaped star/stripe, he couldn't really be called anything BUT Tadpole!!!!

So they had Bobby from Burleigh, Cullen from Ceilidh and Kenny from Killari then of course, Tadpole from Folly but that was just as well cos they couldn't come up with a suitable "F" name (not one that was polite in any case!).  In that case of Bobby being CM StaaBurst and Tadpole being CM StaaStruck - even though they are written as one word, they still come into the two part names in our minds as they have the capital letter in there and it really is a separate word.

Michelle like names with meaning and prior to Cullen being born, they had been looking up baby names on some websites with the Gaelic/Celtic theme, they had a list of a few, but Michelle kept being drawn back to Cullen.  Cullen by rights probably should have had a 'Staa' at the beginning of his name, however they didn't come up with anything that they actually liked for him that suited with that in it (being that he was also by CM Danzaponastaa and they used the Staa for the other two by him as well).

Cullen means Handsome.....and he is of course very handsome.  Eachan means "brown horse" - and well, that's kind of self explainatory.  Together, it's Handsome Brown Horse which of course he is!!!  It just really seemed to suit him perfectly.

So that's the reasoning behind him being named CM Cullen Eachan!  The CM part is pretty straight forward, they are CM Sporthorses with the CM standing for Craig and Michelle.

When they first came up with the CM Sporthorses name, they were discussing what they could name foals and thought that they could do some along the lines of the 'See Spot Run" kids books, with the CM being like "See him" or "See 'em" and have something like CM RunLikeBlazes or something.  CM JumpThe Stars, etc.  They haven't actually used that yet, but they're sure they will come up with something at some point along those lines!!!

They could have named Cullen CM HesGonnaBeAStaa.....but it doesn't suit him as much as CM Cullen Eachan they don't think!  :-)
