About me
From a very young age, I have always felt that I should be part of nature. I would play in the woods, running barefoot, no shirt, swimming in the lakes. I distained the traffic and pollution of the cities. But as I grew older, I learned to accept the urban life. But now I am naturizing, I am getting back to nature, which doesn't mean that I think all technology is bad, but that it is over used and mis-used to the detriment of ourselved and to society. Now, I realized that I had been caught up in the system, and the pressures to go with the flow of the material life. Now, that I have done much personal naturizing to a large extent, I realize all the benefits of the more natural life, a more balanced, sustainable life that is good for the environment, for me, and for society. My interests were sparked in 1994, when I read a book on world cultures. I had read about cultures that were less developed than that of the Western world. I had read about the benefits that the more natural cultures had. I made a decision to travel and to study other cultures. It started in 1995, when I went to Nepal with the Peace Corps for two years. I lived in a village that had no running water, no electricity, no cars. I was a math teacher in this village. I enjoyed my time there very much because I was living a more natural life. I ate very healthy, natural foods. I walked often because it was the main transport to school, to the market, or to anywhere. I got my exercise in a natural way. I didn't have to motivate myself to exercise for the sake of exercise, but because it was necessary to get anywhere. Pollution was low because people didn't have much things that would cause pollution. Trash was nearly impossible. Noise pollution was nearly impossible. Air pollution was nearly impossible. I was more interconnected with society, because people were outdoors and more connected as a result of no cars. Not that life was perfect. I am not saying that at all. But they do have a lot going for them and I think we western societies can learn alot from them. After my two years in Nepal, I was hooked on naturizing my life more to reap the many benefits. I eventually left my life in the west, and started living in third world countries. I have lived mostly in Cambodia, and Nepal because I find them to be the most suitable for me. I will discussed life in these countries in more detail in either this report or another report as time permits. |
