Hiss...Hisss...Crack....."got us pinned down, they just wrecked our
transport, we can't get out of here"....Hisss....Click.

"Sergent, if you surrender that position, I swear on the Emperor's
Divine Name I will hunt you down and kill you myself," the Commisar
shouted into her commlink.  She had her own problems, not least of which
was a line of Heretic Terminators advancing on the bunker where the last
vestiges of her squad were laying down an ineffective hail of covering
fire.  The half dozen of ancient ceramite-armoured monstrosities that
remained could probably overrun the bunker by themselves.

...And then they dissapeared, engulfed in a haze of lightning blue
light.  They teleported out.

Hiss...ssss.hisss..."Eaters are falling back, I repeat, the World Eaters
are falling back"

"What?!" the Commisar questioned her commlink incredulously.  That
didn't make any sense.  The World Eaters were known for many things, but
falling back was not one of them.  The ground shook with a distant
explosion as she praised the Emperor for his Divine Intervention.
Raising the comm to her ear she switched channels with her thumb.  Her
confusion grew as she listened on...

hisssss...s.ssss..."definitely Eldar manufacture, and we have reports
that a Wraithlord spotted on the western flank.  It just walked away
after massacring an entire squad of Space Wolves.  We have sent scouts
into the field to search for survivors and attempt to
comfirm"...Hiiissss. s.s.s.sssss....

She switched channels again.

Hisss...."You heard me, I'm up to my ankles in demon ichor....I don't
know...I don't know..."...hisssss.

And the the commisar thought to herself:

"An alliance between the Heretics and the Aliens.  If true, this is very
disturbing news.  We need more information."

She surveyed the now silent and smoldering battle field.  What manner of
unholy alliance was this?  And why had the enemy surrendered the
battlefield when victory had been well within their reach?  Her mind
raced through centuries of military training and experience.  Only one
word made sense:

Diversion.

She shuddered, and prayed for guidance.
