The Batch of 1994 - Christian Medical College, Vellore, India

Batch of 94-sleeping?! Hey ,this is unbelievable! The most studious batch they say. IS IT TRUE? Well certain things are unavoidable and inseparable and so here goes....

In the beginning, there was Anat, Physio, Biochem and the hostel project. The last demanded maximum attention and work , and the first three were times to compensate for those missed dreams .Sometimes the environment was just too conducive...The much awaited slide shows! Lights off, lecturers going on slow and steady, slow and....slow and....yawn. Must mention Nisha and Shantha Sree who really freaked out. Nisha even managed to walk in straight into the hostel pond one night. Must have been lost in Biochem! KC slept standing; Ajit on the cadavers-of course with a Hutchison in hand.

The worst was Biochem. Who knew which aminoacid combined with which RNA! The best hours of sleep, often interrupted with well aimed chalkpieces made Biochem unforgettable. By the way, who said we slept? We were only meditating on the complexity of the subject , subconsciously.

Then came Pharm. For once, the last rows were reserved. Guys felt more at home, sleeping supine. Heard of Alice in wonderland? Well, many a time we've been escorted by her to wonderland, dreamland ,wherever we wanted to go!

MICROBIOLOGY-the ultimate. The classroom, the time, the lecture....invited the Tsetse flies in causing endemics of sleeping sickness, day in and day out. Even Vikram slept a few times . Pradipta would and could never doze -ever.

Comm. Health added to the list. After all Park, whichever way you read it ,is still PARK(C).

Final year saw some new awakenings , literally awakenings. You gotta get serious man. Rajiv -he's unbeatable. Benji and Sibu looked doped after every Ortho class. Becky hid behind those bigger ones in front. Matthew was often in deep contemplation-very similar to the thinking man. Jennifer, Gina, Neitu, etc, etc, etc.

What did the rest do?

Well, few did listen, the rest stayed awake looking at others sleep, passing notes, few engrossed in novels few sketching and a few very cunningly sleeping with their eyes open! ALL OF US HAVE HAD OUR LAUGHS, OUR FALLS, OUR DROPS ,OUR DROOPS....

'That's the way we did it !' Didn't you?

Some Facts about Sleep

These are proven facts!

The more you sleep the more you want to sleep. The more you want to sleep, the more you sleep..... So, the more you sleep,.... the more you sleep!

If you can't sleep in lectures you are most probably suffering from Hepatic Encephalopathy with inversion of sleep rhythm.

The basic guideline for sleeping in lectures is not to snore and wake up your neighbor.

Sleeping in lectures poses many ethical questions. For e.g. Is it ethical for students to shout out questions and doubts during lectures and wake up those who are sound asleep?
