Al the Octopus. The Red Wings official mascot. Al always hung from the rafters of the games. The octopus tradition started back in 1952, when it only took eight games to win the Stanley Cup. The Cusimano brothers started it, by throwing an octopus onto the ice one game, with the eight tentacles symbolizing the eight victories needed. It's stuck ever since. |
