Suncoast Symphony Orchestra

 

The Suncoast Symphony Orchestra is the Tampa Bay Area's answer for musicians who enjoy performing classical music. Composed of musicians from all walks of life, these volunteers perform a series of concerts a year in the Tampa Bay Area every year.

 

Dr. Theodore DeCorso: Theodore DeCorso is a clarinetist who has concertized in major forums throughout the world. He was featured at Carnegie Recital Hall in two concerts celebrating music from Alaska and was soloist with the Arctic Chamber Orchestra in its tour of the People’s Republic of China. His education includes a M.S. from The Juilliard School and a Ph.D. from The University of Connecticut. His solo recital tour of Europe included recitals in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Vienna, Hamburg, Milan and the Hague and he appeared at prestigious International Clarinet Society forums in London and Seattle. Clarinet concerto performances include collaboration with the Fairbanks, Western Kentucky, University of Hawaii Symphony and Juneau Symphonies. His saxophone performance on the sound track of the public television documentary “Make Prayers to the Raven” has been heard on PBS, BBC, and German Public Television and his clarinet work has been heard on the PBS broadcast “Performance Today” and on Karl Haas “Adventures in Good Music.” As a member of the Alaska Chamber Ensemble he appeared in performances throughout Alaska, and in Seattle, Ellensburg, Portland, Long Beach, Honolulu, and at several NW Music Educators National Conferences. He was clarinetist with the music drama “Coyote” in performances throughout Alaska, at a two week residency at Dartmouth University and on tour in New England. As a conductor, Dr. DeCorso served for four years as music director of the Fairbanks (Alaska)Youth Orchestra and has conducted the Fairbanks Symphony and Arctic Chamber Orchestras. In the area of music theatre he has directed Leonard Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti”, Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” and “A Little Night Music” and the Broadway shows “Guys and Dolls” and “South Pacific.”

 

Past performances have been held at The Palladium, The Largo Cultural Arts Center, The Don Cesar Resort, and various churches and community centers across Pinellas County.

 

Rehearsals are held every Wednesday from 7:30-9:30pm, in the main assembly building at the First Christian Church on Drew Street between Coachman & Belcher.
