Liberty Fife & Drum Corps

Keeping the Spirit Alive on the Suncoast

St. Petersburg, Florida

WHO WE ARE

The Liberty Fife and Drum Corps (an all volunteer corps) was founded in 1995 by a group of musicians who used to play in the various Corps in the Northeastern United States of America. It is our goal to help educate and entertain the public, while having a good time.

We perform at various parades and various functions in the Tampa Bay Area. Past performances have included: The Gulfport Fourth of July Parade, The Festival of States Parades, Christmas Parades, and the St. Pete International Folk Festival (SPIFF). The Corps is available for private events as well.

For a list of upcoming places you will can check us out without being seen or meet us in person, click: HERE

WHAT KIND OF TUNES DO YOU PLAY?

Some of the tunes we enjoy playing are Yankee Doodle, Oh Susanna, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Finnegan's Wake, Rakes of Mallow, The Girl I Left Behind, Minstrel Boy, Wearing of the Green, and Bonnie Blue Flag. The Corps has since added many other tunes! Come join us!

WHAT THE CORPS WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU

Free instruction in fifing, drumming, marching and color guard maneuvers. The Corps usually operates with three instructors. Additional instruction is available by Corps veterans.

WHAT IS THE REGALIA?

Regalia is a fancy word for the clothing from the era. Our Revolutionary Period uniforms consist of tri-cornered hats, knee breeches, long sleeve white shirt, black shoes with buckles, stockings, black belt, waistcoats and regimental coats. We will help you obtain these items.

I CAN'T READ MUSIC! I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY!

That's ok. We will teach you the fundamentals of music, how to produce the notes on the fife and how to play the tunes. All it takes is your patience (we've got plenty!) and practice.

WHERE DO I GET A FIFE?

:Liberty Fife & Drums Corps will provide you with a learning fife for a deposit of $25.

WHAT IS A RUDIMENTARY DRUMMER?

The bass and snare drums are provided by the Corps. Be sure to brush up on your 26 essential rudiments, plus alternate versions. We use them all. The drums are rope tension. We currently use and recommend the Cooperman series of stick and slings. http://www.cooperman.com/

WHAT ABOUT THE COLOR GUARD?

The color guard carries the flags and authentic replicated wooden rifles (they are NOT real). We provide the slings and marching instruction. You will march in the front of the Corps, alerting the audience to the wondrous songs they will soon be singing along with as we parade by them!

CAN MY KIDS BE CAMP FOLLOWERS?

By all means, bring the youngsters along! This is an excellent family opportunity to share and educate your children on the importance of history, pageantry and having a good time together.

I AM READY TO FIND OUT MORE!

We will provide you with the names, phone numbers and locations. Place the word "LIBERTY" in the subject line and email your request to: [email protected]
