LHO
RHO
PLR
Here is the play of an "ordinary game". Players each have reasonabley flat suit distributions and middling holdings in each of the suits. Each play so as to evenly distribute the tricks in the first half of the play and in suits that are the most pressing.

Notes

0.   Only RHO has mild aspirations for a clumond attempt in spades, but the hand is a little too difficult to manage in a proactive environment. Chances in an ordinary game are as good with smaller risk.

1.   LHO begins a club campaign, holding 5 in the suit.

4.   Opening the diamonds, keeping in tact the hearts and spades bearing in mind the concept of the free range in these suits provides a feasible trick free range of three to six.

7.   Prefers to keep the "spare" club for the moment, and begins a heart campaign to offset the club holding.

9.   Time to create a demand for tricks by eliminating the diamonds Ace to remove one round, then exit with the two.

11.  Needing to resolve the uncertainty in the spade suit, PLR opens the spades.

12.  Both RHO and PLR throw hearts as it is clear that the 13th trick will be either a spade exit or a (intended) winner.

Result: All are successful in their targets and receive a one-third share in the clumond.

Post Mortem
Though this hand may be played a number of ways due to the scattering of the power in each of the suits, they would mostly start the same way with a campaign in clubs. Those plays that are mindful of the free range concept and that distribute the tricks in a non-bias way are the most likely to achieve a harmonious result for all ... a happy ending
