Description of the Law Library

The deafening silence of a library is alien to me because of my adverse study habits. I describe it as adverse because I study better with loud music in a coffee shop with a lot of noisy people. Though I may be different compared to other students with respect to my study habits but when I’m in the library, I always respect the wishes of the Librarian of peace under his or her jurisdiction which is the library. In the case of our own library, our librarian has two assistants to assist her not only in maintaining peace but as well as cleanliness, administrative duties and cater to the needs of the students.

Our library has a lot of resources and it is very accessible. It certainly gives alternative to students who are not lucky enough to have ready access to books and cases compared to some who could purchase these books and have access to this information through the internet or other medium. Our facilities are complete and up-to-date which is very essential in our pursuit of quality education.

I graduated from the University of the Philippines and I can attest to a common description of UP as the “microcosm of our society”. Our libraries in UP are exactly what our current situation is here in the country. It does not have enough resources to meet the growing demand of the students. In fact, we have “ancient” books that are so old that the concepts and ideas in it are already obsolete.

Our law library in the University of San Agustin is more or less opposite to the Philippine society. In the law library, we follow rules as simple as keeping quiet, protocols in borrowing books, etc. But in our society, some of us do, some of us don’t. The worst part of it is that our supposed models or leaders of the society are also the first ones to defy the rules. We have a lot of resources in the law library, enough to cater to the needs of the students. Our country does not have that luxury though it is not impossible to achieve it. Our library is comfortable because it is air-conditioned, complete with seats, tables, etc. Unlike our country, most of our fellow countrymen migrate to other countries to look for better opportunities. They are not comfortable living in their own country because of limited job opportunities, crime, corruption, etc.

To wrap this up, though I may have somewhat deviated to what this assignment should have been which is simply describing the law library but I hope the comparison I presented is enough for us student to be able to appreciate what our library has to offer. And that it is a privilege to be in this institution that is able to address the needs of its students… the future leaders of this country.
