Out of the mouths of babes
I am sitting here giggling and just had to share.
As you know, our niece, Jaedra, came to spend the weekend with us. She has been with us since Friday. Jaedra is exactly 11 months younger than Conor.
This morning, Jaedra has been beside herself. All her cousins have been at school. It has been a pretty rough morning for her. I just got back from picking Conor up from school.
So Conor walks in the door and Jaedra begins yelling...Gramma, Grampa They're HOOOmmmee!! She is hovering over Conor as he tries to take off his hat, gloves, boots, coat, backpack.
He walks in the door and Blues Clues is on the tv. He sits on the couch to watch it. Jaedra sits as close as possible next to him and links her arm in his. And she begins asking questions...
Jaedra: "How was your day Conor?"
Conor: "Fine."
Jaedra: "What did you do at school?"
Conor: "Stuff."
Jaedra: "Did you play with blocks or dolls?"
Conor: "I don't play with dolls and we don't have blocks."
Susie: "Conor you have blocks at school, you just didn't play with them today."
Jaedra: "So what kinds of things did you do?"
Conor: "I forgot."
Susie: "You told me that you made a gingerbread house."
Conor: "Yeah. So. We didn't eat it."
At this point I couldn't keep my self composure any longer and went upstairs to laugh my head off. When I came back down to the main floor, Jaedra was sitting in the recliner across from Conor with a pouty face. I said, "What's wrong Jaedra?" She replied, "Conor told me to sit here, and give him some space and let him watch his tv show."
It just reminded me of a couple. The dh comes home from work. The wife has been home all day without adult conversation. She wants to hear all about her husband's day, every minute detail. In his mind, he told her everything. He said, "I had a busy day, I completed a bunch of stuff." And in her mind, he has communicated absolutely nothing. So he wants to veg out in front of the tv and regain his composure and she feels regected.
Anyway... I got a chuckle out of it and wanted to share. Hope it brings a smile to your face as well.
God bless,
~Susie
Connor's first day of School
December, 2002
Conor was really nervous last night
and was saying he didn't want to go
to school today. After talking with him
a bit it came out that he was afraid
that he was going to have to do homework
like his sisters. I assured him that it
would be a while before he had to do
homework.
So this morning he was talking with his sisters and he was a little sad that Mommy was going to
leave him. Dayna, bless her heart, said, "Conor, you won't be alone without someone who loves
you. You have Jesus in your heart. He is always with you." I hugged Conor and then he and I
prayed together. Everything I asked for, Conor just nodded his head and kept saying, "yes, yes".
Taryl and I took him to school. When we got there the teacher had already labeled the coatrack
with his name, and gave him a blue (his favorite color) sit-upon with his name on it. (You sit
on these circles during group time.) His name was listed with all the boys on the "check in
board", he had a square labeled with his name to hang up his art work. And to top it off, the
teacher was asking him what color cubby bin would he like. He was so excited to see his name
everywhere...AND it was spelled correctly. :o) (Conor has this "thing" about his name being
spelled correctly.)
What I was so excited about is I heard two or three little boys squeal when they saw him and
say, "Conor, Conor come sit by me!! Come sit by me!!" And then I heard a little voice say
something and then one of the teachers say "I know, Conor is going to start coming to school
with us. Today is his first day." And then I heard "Yay!!!" from that same little voice.
When I went to say good bye to Conor, group had already started and he sort of waved me off, as
if to say, "yeah yeah Mom, can't you see I am busy."
When I went to pick him up, his teacher gave me the thumbs up sign and said, "Conor had an
excellent day! We cut and he did excellent. He really did great." Conor was so excited he said
that he did crafts and played with leggos and went outside to play. He can't wait to go
tomorrow.
I have to admit something guys. I cried all the way home. As well as a few times during the day.
I am even tearing up as I write this. Don't get me wrong, I am so excited for my son. I see
God's hand in it all. But guys... this is the first time in the eight years that I have been a
SAHM that I have not had a child at home. And I won't be having any more babies. I am starting a
new era in my life. My baby is growing up and now in school. I am thrilled for my son, but as a
momma, I am a bit sad. I know I am a big sap and need to get over it, and I will.
Anyway.. Conor had a wonderful day. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the
prayers that you have lifted up on my son's behalf. Words cannot express my gratitude.
God bless you all...
On Tuesdays we have a short poll called "Tuesday's Twos";
One of the questions was whether you had a romantic proposal....
This was Susie's story:
Technically, my dh never proposed. We were both broke and in college. We were trying to study
for finals and everywhere we went was extremely noisy, so we went to the church, where no one
was around. We went to study in the nursery because they had comfy rockers to sit in. I looked
up from my studies to find him just staring at me. I asked him what he was thinking, and he said,
"Spending the rest of my life with you."
Later on we picked up the rings and were married a year and a half later. (DH wanted to make
sure I graduated from college before we married. He was concerned that I would never finish my
education if we married before that. And in retrospect, he is probably right.) :o)

This is Kristy!!
January, 2002
"Out of the mouths of babes"...
This is a little thing, but it just made my heart melt.
My son, Conor, is 3 and has a speech problem called Apraxia. We have been working really hard on
his speech and he does receive therapy, so when he says something clear, it is just a praise.
Well, today, I was talking with him and I said, "You are my sweet boy." And he said, "You are
my sweet Mama"
I hugged him and asked him, "Conor, how did I get so lucky to get you?" He pulled away from me,
looked me in the eyes, smiled and said, "Mama, you prayed. And Daddy prayed too."
It was said so clearly, and with such conviction. My praise is both that his speech was so
clear, and with it, my son was acknowledging our wonderful Lord.
I just had to share. My heart is so full right now.
Thanks! Susie
How did Susie choose her screename?
"Obviously I lack imagination as mine is just my name."
