Men, women travel to Florida, California

Women's California trip

On their way to a spring break in Florida, three of the men's water polo team stopped by a tournament in Tampa.

Dmitry Lubensky, Thor Sletten and Ron Toam drove all day and all night on Friday, March 21 to Tampa, where they joined the University of Tennessee's team.

Although the trio were still driving during Tennessee's first game, each of Northwestern's players played at least a half in the final three games, Lubensky said.

"It was a fun tournament," Lubensky said. "I think we did really well. Thor looked stronger in the field than he has before. Ron did a nice job in hole 'D'. I had some steals and some nice assists. It was a fun place."

The joint team won only a single game, 13-2, against South Florida.

Tennessee/Northwestern had a 5-1 lead against Florida State at halftime, but the Seminoles won the game 12-8. "We should have won that game," Lubensky said.

The first game Northwestern joined was against "Dynamo" a men's competitive club team from Atlanta. Dynamo defeated the Tenneessee/Northwestern team 12-4.

California glamour shines on women

Men's Florida trip

Half of the women's water polo team flew to California during spring break, March 22-20. The team played two tournaments on the weekends and practiced and scrimmaged during the week at varying college campuses.
