| On the 17th of August, a small group of Pakistani-Australian university students formed a committe and organised a dinner to celebrate Pakustan's 60th Aniversary. The late celebration was held at Bundu Khan, a Pakistani restaurant located in Auburn, Sydney. The main Organizers of this function were Mr. Omer Hameed, Miss. Sumaira Hoda, and Miss. Ameena Rahmatullah. The guestlist included 50 people, consisting of Pakistani youth from different schools, universities and workplaces. The dinner was aimed at not only celebrating this occasion but was largely aimed at forming a pakistani outh community which can remain cnsistent and whilst expanding, meet on a regular basis to discuss political issues, maintain cultural values and traditions and a sense of belonging that all pakistani children growing up in a western environment need to maintain there identities. The dinner was kindly assisten by Kamil and Nasir, who made a tremendous effort to not only ensure the food was of a high standard, but to decorate the inside of the retaurant with Pakistani flags and custom-made signs to mark this occasion. The entertainment apart from a lively collection of songs compiled by the organisers, consisted of an entertaining trivia quiz based on questions relating to pakistan, as well as an Urdu competition where amusing phrases were translated from English into Urdu or Punjabi. |
