Adrianna. That's my name. I'm 24, average height, brown hair, brown eyes, and I'm an undercover agent in a secret division of the government. Sorry, I can't tell you more...well, I may as well since you're listening to me. I'm on a cruise ship that's making its way through the Carribean. It's a special ship, special in the way that MTV has rented it for a week long party fest for their 'Summer on the High Seas' spectacular. Really, it's just an excuse for them to throw a party.
So what has that got to do with me? Not much, to tell you the truth. I had been sent onboard to reach a special co-ordination that this ship would reach in about...fifteen minutes. It was nearly 5 in the morning and it was already getting light out. The sun would be an enemy at this point. Am I going to do something illegal? Maybe. Dangerous? Hells yah.
"Are you sure I have to make the move like this?" I whispered into my necklace comm-link. The reply came through a coordinating comm-link that looked like an earring...which it was.
"We've been through this before, Agent," The voice was of my mission leader, Mika. He was a gruff guy of around 40 and very much a father figure in my life. He'd never lead me wrong and now he was under a bunch of strain since he'd lost contact with Ciara, my sister in this strange agency I'd joined. She'd been in a plane headed for the same location I was in. There had been a storm yesterday and Mika'd lost contact with her. I know it bugged him to have lost comm with her. "You know very well you have to make the jump from this stage."
It wasn't even a stage, more like a deck. "Okay," I said back to him. "How much time is left?"
"Exactly ten minutes," A pause. "Good luck, Anya." His nickname for me. Ever since he saw that Anastasia cartoon movie....it drove me nuts. Even so, I wasn't as nuts as Ciara...that girl would look death in the eye and laugh. She's done that more than once in her life. After all, she was an assasin.
I readied the controls on my slender gold bangle bracelet, the large ruby cabachon that was encrusted into the braclet's surface winked in the growing sunlight, mocking me. Taking a final look around the empty deck, I put my hands on the top rail, and climbed over one leg at a time. I sat on the wide top rail, taking in the scene before me.
The water sped away from me, I was at the back of the ship, the wake of the ship looked like a frothy white scarf. I looked below me carefully, I didn't want to slip, and I grimaced at what I saw. Though the wide wooden decks below me were free of people in general, I could see the figure of a person looking over the edge of the deck below me. It was a male, his blond hair was tousled and it looked like he'd had trouble sleeping.
Why was this trouble for me? Well, the deck below me held the celebrities. Celebrities? Right, I guess I'd forgotten to tell you about them. MTV had taken the delight of inviting such musical personalities as Blink 182, Train, Areosmith, Backstreet Boys, Mandy Moore, Out of sync, Eminem, and a few more. There were three Backstreet Boys onboard: Nick, Kevin, and Brian. The other two were to be brought in by helicopter some time today. How did I know they were coming by helicopter? Let's just say I have connections. I'm a fan, but not to the point of obsession. I simply know good music when I hear it.
And I knew it was Nick. I'm not sure how, but deep down, I just knew. And I knew that would be trouble for me. How? Because I didn't need someone thinking I was suiciding (which I wasn't) and I didn't need to give him a complex by having him seeing me doing what I was gonna do.
"Get ready, Anya," Mika again. "The time is almost right. I can see that the bracelet is active and all the controls appear to be working in proper form."
"Allright," I said. I winced, I'd said it a bit too loudly. Trouble looked up and I found myself staring into Nick Carter's deep blue eyes. "Shit, someone's seen me, Mika."
"It doesn't matter, there's only eight minutes left. Try to just get him out of your range. You have to make the leap from where you're at."
Looking down, I knew I had a problem. I just wasn't too sure how to solve it.
