These two vessels are thought to be interim ships, built as a stop-gap measure until the design for the Abyss class was perfected. They are versatile vessels and comparatively cheap for heavy cruisers. With their added defence turrets, they are better protected, but otherwise hull design, sensors and overall layout is similar to many other chaos cruisers. These vessels are among the few vessels in chaos service armed with torpedoes. It is thought that these were intended to be a cheap replacement for launch bays, because at the time of their construction, Khyron had only limited access to small craft production facilities.  The ships have a new loading system, some escaped slaves mentioned massive beasts used to haul the torpedoes into position and possessed loading arms to hoist them into the tubes. Whether this is true or not, the magazine like elevators supposedly caused some problems in the time after their initial testing, but seemingly, these flaws were corrected or the crews are better trained now.  So far, these ships only used plasma and boarding torpedoes, but it is not inconceivable that more specialized warheads are aboard.  Their other armament concentrates around fusion drivers and plasma cannon batteries, which are plentiful aboard other proven designs.  The same is true for the massive laser lance turrets on the sides of the ships.  Overall the Mayhem class is, the torpedo tubes aside, nothing special and likely to remain a relatively rare vessel.
