| How To Make a Degradation
OK. Here is how I did it. Get hold of some green stuff (modelling putty), a very fine hacksaw blade, and a number of sharp modelling blades (I use surgical scalpels, but these are not strong enough for the job - I broke 3, shattered 1). 1) Cut the 'prongs' off the Despoiler by cutting down (using hacksaw blade) on an angle along the 'hanger roof', and by making a second cut along the 'neck' from the end of the weapons batteries to the 'hanger roof'. (Follow the contours of the ship to make life a bit easier) 2) Cut the 'hanger roof' down so that the only thing left on it is that rectangle with the arrow and turret space (this should still be attached to the 'neck' of the ship). 3) Clean everything off. 4) The base of the prow won't allow you to put the prongs together, so you will have to trim it down (I used pliers - but I'm not a subtle person ;). If you make a mess of it (like I did) then you can use green stuff to make it tidy again. 5) Smooth the inside of the prongs (get rid of the turrets inside the tip of the prongs) and fit the prongs together so that they are symmetrical. Glue them like that so they stay there. 6) Cut the underside 'hanger roof' (still attached to the neck) into a 'V' so that it will smoothly fit into the joint between the prongs (do not glue the prongs in yet). 7) Match the prongs to the base of the prow (do not glue yet) – this is likely to take a bit more cleaning to make them fit. 8) Using 1 hand to hold everything, align the prongs, neck, and prow base so that everything is in line down the spine of the ship. Do not worry about large gaps; just make sure that there is enough contact to glue the pieces together. Glue the pieces together. 9) Apply green stuff liberally along all of the joints. Push it in to fill the gaps with a small amount of excess. Wait until the green stuff is dry then trim the excess off until the ship looks symmetrical with no gaps showing. 10) Paint ;) |
