| Background
Another highly unusual vessel in Khyron's fleet, the Abyss class
was a rude and unpleasant surprise when it first appeared. Not only
because of an unusual configuration with the bridge on the very rear end
of the ship and equipped with a second fire control bridge and excellent
communications and jammer arrays, the ships also packed a lot of firepower.
A massive lot of firepower for their size. While not unusual in type,
the sheer amount of weapons is cause for concern. Massive plasma cannon
and missile launchers dot the prow and the sides, each weapon capable of
high range and concentrated together, they can generate broadsides similar
to imperial Retribution class battleships. The massive laser lance and
tetrion energy turrets on deck and on the sides also have excellent range
and generate an awesome power. Indeed, with all of these weapons, the Abyss
class can generate a firestorm which is more powerful than the broadsides
of most battleships. Together with their speed and better than usual defensive
turret cover, they are extremely dangerous. In their first battle,
the Unholy Fire and the Glorious Blood engaged and destroyed the imperial
Oberon class battleship Royal Rose and two of it's escorting cruisers.
While both ships were damaged in the pitched fight, both escaped and left
the rest of the imperial squadron behind. The light cruiser Valorous Lancer
and three Cobra destroyers gave chase, but the chaos ships turned at bay
and opened fire, crippling the Lancer and destroying two of the escort
vessels. The commander then broke off the engagement, after which
the chaos ships escaped into the warp. The sophisticated design is
a mystery and probably Khyron was only able to build them with daemonic
aid. It is estimated that the sheer complexity of these ships will prevent
a wide-spread use by chaos forces.
