Stereo Viewers

Stereoviews, or stereotypes, were the 19th Century televisions. These pictures are 3-dimensional, giving, when done properly, all the perspective and reality of being in the spot of the picture. They are made by using one of the other film formats, usually Daguereotypes (for their resolution), in a special camera. This camera was two cameras, with two lenses spaced as far as the average eyes apart. This created to slightly different photographs, making the picture (when viewed properly) just like seeing it with your own eyes. Both photographs were placed on a card, and the card was viewed through a special device that used lenses to direct both images to your eyes at the same time.
