Cloth Tape, the name, is a metaphor for how the band Cloth Tape works together as a unit. Cloth-tape itself, which you can buy at any hardware store is very strong tape that is made of interwoven strands. It sticks to nearly anything and is hard to rip apart. This is how Cloth Tape the band like to see themselves. That is, as a strong unit joined together by each other, unfailing in commitment to the band and themselves and very hard to be brought apart. You can be cloth tape with your friends, if your friendship is like this. Cloth Tape are very much together as a band and their strength comes from the fact that they know they can rely on each other.

Also, the name doesn't conjure any preordained ideas about what sort of music the band plays and in the early days of the band this was thought of as a good thing.
