I have bought most of my clothes and accessories from charity shops and
period clothing shops - nice and cheap......
Here are some of the places I have found good things:
X, Sharrowvale Road, Hunters Bar,
Sheffield (old clothes and bric a brac) |
The Front Parlour, Sharrowvale Road,
Hunters Bar, Sheffield (old clothes, accessories and bric a brac -
absolutely brilliant and very reasonable prices) |
Affleck's Palace, off Market Street,
Manchester (there are two shops I go to here - one on the first floor and
one on the top floor next to the cafe - both are very good, although more
expensive than the ones in Sheffield) |
| Freshman's,
Devonshire Quarter, Sheffield (large shop specialising in seventies
clothes, but also has bric a brac and some older dresses) |
| Princes Avenue, Hull
( I can't remember the name of the shop, but
if you go to Princes Ave you will see it - an original vintage clothing
shop with clothes stacked together so tightly you need strong arms to get
anything out! You could find anything in there, so well worth a look , and
reasonably priced. Also some bric a brac. Generally open on Saturdays but
tends to open when the owner decides to come in) |
| Antiques Emporium,
Mottram, near Manchester (old converted chapel on the main road to
Manchester from Glossop. Lots of small shops selling all sorts of bric a
brac and furniture. Worth a root around) |
| The Attic,
St. Benedicts Street, Norwich (sells vintage clothes and
accessories at the going rate - not cheap, but reasonable, and good
bargain room at the back with a pound and 50p rail. The shops downstairs
are also good - old records , films memorabilia and books. There are also
some good shops down Elm Street - the oldest street in Norwich so you
can't miss it on the tourist maps...) |
| Sheffield Antiques
Emporium, Clyde Road, Heeley Bottom,
Sheffield (over 70 small shops and extremely reasonable prices for
crockery - I just bought a 1930s green polka dot cup and saucer in a
bargain basket for £1.50. Good place to wander around on a rainy day -
has a cafe as well) |
| Colywn Bay FC boot
fair, Safeways car park, Colwyn Bay
(brilliant because it's really big and is on most Sunday mornings. Every
time I've been I have always found something really good and cheap and
unusual - I found two of my bags there and a great 1920s saucer for
£2.50) |
