The fire-guted ferry, Levina I, is towed to Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta
February 24, 2007. The Indonesian navy towed the fire-gutted ferry from the Java Sea towards port on Friday,
officials said, amid confusion over how many passengers were on board and may still be missing. The official
count from the sea accident remains 16 dead and 17 missing based on the manifest for the ferry, the Levina I,
which says 307 people were on board. However, officials fear there were many stowaways on the ill-fated ship.

Thursday morning 22 February 2007, around 4.30 a.m., Levina ship that had left the
Jakarta harbor Tanjung Priok was caught on fire, in the middle of the sea approximately 65 miles from the shore of Jakarta.
The fire was from a truck loaded with inflammable chemicals then spread rapidly to other trucks and cars and motorcycles
on board the ship. 316 people were on board, more than 45 dead.
Saturday 24 February 2007 around 1.30 a.m. the wreckage of Levina was towed by a
tugboat to a location approximately 2 miles from the shore. The plan was to sink it to become artificial reef, to become the
home of undersea species. Before sinking it, there would be some investigation by the teams of Police Forensic Lab and
KNKT, the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee.
Sunday 25 February 2007 at 12.00 a.m. the investigation team arrived on the location
using three police patrol boats. The teams consisting of 10 policemen from Police Forensic Lab, 4 officers from KNKT, the
Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee, climbed onboard the ship. While half an hour later some 11 crews of six
private national TV stations, the reporters and cameramen, and one reporter from a radio station,
were also allowed to get on board the ship.
Approaching 13.30 a.m. the ship that initially had already leaned around five degrees to
the right, turned to lean further to the right. It caused Susilo, a driver from SCTV who was waiting on one of the patrol boats,
to ask the policemen to remind those on board the ship to abandon the ship. Using a megaphone, a policeman shouted
toward those on board the ship to abandon it. Less than five minutes, the ship turned ninety degree and capsized, began
to submerge under the sea.
Unfortunately some of the TV crews were unable to swim. One of them, Suherman from
Lativi, who was drowned. Although he was finally saved by the others on board the police boats, yet he died on the way to the
hospital. While three other persons were still missing, two policemen and a cameraman from SCTV.
Tuesday morning 27 February 2007, after the search on the previous day failed to find the three
missing persons, at around 7.30 a.m. one of the policemen, officer Widyantoro, was found dead on the surface of the sea water approximately
500 meters from the location of the sinking ship. Three hours later, the other police officer, Langgeng Widodo was also found dead, floating
on the sea approximately one mile away from the sank ship.
That same Tuesday, in the afternoon, at around 5.30 p.m. the last of those three missing
persons, Muhammad Guntur, a cameraman from SCTV, was also found dead on the shore among some mangrove trees.
The name of Guntur is like the name of the street where my friend Ferry lives. His wife name happened to be Maemunah like
the name of my former neighbor, the mother of Nita.

Drowned Suherman Died Bringing Three Others

The painting of Andrea Corr, sitting in the garden shaping letter "L".
It was still unfinished when I unrolled it on Wednesday,
one day before the Levina ship caught on fire.
|
Wednesday, 21 February 2007, I was preparing to take some pictures of my paintings.
There were more than 12 paintings that I needed to snap for documentary, most of them were from the 2006 production.
Due to limited space in my bedroom, most of those unframed paintings were rolled and placed on the right of my bed.
So when I would like to make the photos, I needed to unroll them and inevitably sometimes I unrolled the paintings that I was not
going to make photo of. Among them was the painting of Andrea Corr sitting in a garden leaning to the right of her, shaping
the letter "L".
It was a painting I started a few years ago when she and her group band the Corr were
visiting Jakarta for a tour show. I left the painting unfinished because I worked some other paintings.
The next day, Thursday 22 February 2007, Levina ship was caught on fire in the morning.
I still thing it has nothing to do with me.
Sunday, 25 February 2007, around ten o'clock I took the bicycle, preparing to go to the internet
shop. In front of the house, Sakim the gardener who used to work every Wednesday and Sunday, was standing on top of
the concrete gate, trying to clean some branches of the fir tree in front of the house. He was wearing a T-Shirt with some
gray and red horizontal lines.
A few minutes later, by the time I reached the internet shop, it happened to be close that day.
Although there are some other internet shops, I preferred to get back home because the others are more expensive. A few hundred
meters approaching the house, I met my brother in law with the other members of the family on the Mercedes Benz, they were
about to go somewhere.
In front of the house, I met Sakim again, this time he was no longer on top of the concrete gate,
he was down on the street, carrying a saw.
Since I have increased my adrenaline to have the mood of work, although it was Sunday, I unrolled
the unfinished painting of Andrea Corr and began to work it again. Around two thirty, at RCTI TV there was the breaking news about
Levina ship sinking with some police officers and KNKT and media people on board. One person died, Suherman from Lativi, while
three others were still missing. The next two days three other missing persons were found dead.
For me it becomes like a message related to my consent to move to the eternity. The
name of Suherman, sounds a little bit like my name Firman. He died on Sunday while the other three were missing and
found dead later. As if Suherman drowned and died bringing three others, among them was Muhammad Guntur.
It becomes like a caution for me that I should be consistent with my consent to move up to the eternity. Other wise I would have the
triggering effect of causing others to die.

Lefana Not Levina
The name of the sinking ship Levina is also like a reminder for me related to the name
of my niece, the daughter of my brother Faisal. Her name is Sharita Lefana. The last name Lefana comes from a combination
of my sister in law's name Lena, inserted with the first syllable of my brother's name Faisal, so it becomes Le-fa-na.
While the name Levina could be interpreted as my sister in law's name Lena inserted with
my name Firman, to become Lefina, or Levina. And the Levina was on fire just one day after I had the plan to continue my
unfinished painting of Andrea Corr shaping the letter "L".
It becomes like a reminder for me not to trigger the appearance of Le-fi-na, because it would
be against my consent to move out of this world as soon as possible. This reminder also important since a few years ago there
were a family of mine, a sibling of Sis and Ruslan Cakraningrat, whereas when the older brother died, his wife turned to the younger
brother. And it should never happen to me because my consent is to move out of this world soon, earlier than my brother.
