The Dream
of a Friend
Fluff
By Codename Emi
Dedicated to Daniel, who gave me the paper
this story was originally written on.
She walked up behind him and wrapped her arms around his middle,
resting her cheek against his back.
“Hey Jules,” he said. He never
called her Julie unless he was teasing her.
It was always Jules for her. She
didn’t mind; it made her feel special.
“Sammy,” she murmured. She
always called him that, too, but there was no particular reason for it.
In their thoughts, they were alike.
Both were intelligent enough, and both were a
small bit carefree, although Julie did get embarrassed easily.
“What are you doing?” she asked him, coming around beside him,
under his arm.
“Math homework,” he answered.
“But it can wait now that you’re here.”
They smiled at each other.
In looks, they were built the same.
Both were skinny with killer appetites, even though they were very picky
about what they actually ate. Julie had
short hair for a girl, but not too short, and it was blonde with a slight hint
of red. Sam had shaggy brown hair that
stuck out in all directions. Julie ran
her hands through it and smiled into his beautiful brown eyes. He looked down into her blue ones and smiled
back as he noted the gold speck on her right eye.
“I love you,” he told her and kissed her softly.
She melted into his arms and when the kiss ended, she answered, “And
you know I love you too.”
Julie was in heaven here in Sam’s embrace. For years now, she had dreamed of it, and now
it was finally happening. She never
wanted to leave.
As if with that thought she had jinxed herself, Sam’s younger
sister barged into the room.
“Oh…my…God!” she said, disgusted at the sight of both of them
kissing. “Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!” She turned and left the room,
giving them time to compose themselves before coming back in. “Mom says for you to come get your
laundry. Now.” Then she turned and fled, still saying “Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.” as she went down the
hall.
Sam looked at his girlfriend, who was feeling quite
embarrassed. He laughed and hugged her
and kissed her once more saying, “It’s okay, baby girl. C’mon, let’s go get my laundry.”
He took her hand and they headed down the hall to the laundry room. She helped him hang up a few of his shirts
and pants.
Suddenly, he asked, “Wanna wear my
clothes?”
“Huh? Why would I want that?”
was her answer
“Well do you want to?” he asked again.
She nodded.
“Here,” he said, handing her a pink button down shirt and a pair of
khaki slacks.
“Where should I change?” she asked timidly.
“Right here,” he told her, turning around, “I promise I won’t look.”
She quickly changed from her tight jeans into his loose khakis,
even though she knew he would sneak a peek at her. She slipped off her t-shirt and put his shirt
over her white camisole.
“Sammy,” she whispered, reaching out and touching his arm.
He turned to her, smiling. “What
do you think?” he asked.
“This,” she said, moving close to him and kissing his lips.
To him, her kiss was like a drop of pure, sweet nectar. They clung to one another, kissing and touching
like they were the only two people on earth.
This was proven wrong, though, as Sam’s mom opened the door to the
laundry room.
She reacted the same way his sister had. “Oh…my…God. I did not need to see that.”
Julie jerked away from Sam, hastily buttoning up the shirt she was
wearing and giving his mom and evil glare.
“Geez,” what is it with people walking in
on us today?” Sam said, a
crooked grin on his face.
“I’m sorry,” said his mom, “but, Sam, I need to know if you are
staying for dinner.”
“No, thanks though, I think I’m gonna
take Jules out to eat, okay?”
His mom agreed, helping him fold up the rest of his clothes. Then she left the two, saying, “Be good!”
“Come on, Joolee,” Sam said teasingly,
grabbing her hand and leading her out of the room.
“Can’t I change before we go out, Sammy?” she asked.
“Nah, we’re not going anywhere special.” He winked.
“Aw, Sam, come on!” she whined.
“Just get in,” he told her, opening the car door.
She hopped in, huffing, and he started up the car. They listened to the music playing on the
radio, and sang along when they knew the words.
Sam pulled the car to a halt in a spot in the parking lot.
“What are we doing?” she asked, looking out at the park.
“Come on, let’s go play on the playground.”
The place was deserted, as it was after dark, so they climbed
together onto the equipment, talking about their experiences there as young
children.
“Catch me if you can!” Julie called,
dashing off.
“Come back here you!” he cried, chasing her up the steps.
She started to run down the twisty slide, but then she fell
gracefully onto her butt. He came down
behind her, pulling her into his lap. He
kissed her, but she pushed him away, pretending to be angry with him.
She turned her face away from him.
“Jules? Jules? What is it?” He went to her, forcing her to face him.
Instead of the despair and tears he thought were there, he found
laughter and a big grin. He pulled her
tightly into his embrace and they both walked back together, smiling in a mutual
state of pure bliss.
