The response to this over the last two decades has been a growth of people-centred approaches to development. This change of emphasis is demonstrated by the revised policy priorities of many development agencies, which are giving increased emphasis to socially sensitive policy formulation and implementation. Social development is concerned with human relationships in all dimensions of development - not only in the social sector. It is a growing discipline that aims to refine development by making it more accountable, more equitable, and more appropriate. It embraces an approach to human rights that takes account of those economic, social and cultural policies necessary for the survival, development and dignity of individual men and women. |
