Welcome to the March
issue of The newsletter of Canadian Numismatics. I have
found out the other day what the coins will be for 2000, two
examples of the 2000 series of coins are shown above, they are
both to commemorate the Chinese New Year for 2000.
The coin on the left is
an 18 Karat gold hologram $150 face value coin, which looks like
it's in colour, but it's just the hologram. I remember last
year I was hoping in the next few years the RCM should try out a
colour coin, although this really isn't a colour coin, I just
consider this coin a sorta colour coin.
The coin on the right is
is the 2000 issue of the Chinese New Year series, this is the 3rd
coin in the series, this year's issue is the the "year of
the dragon". The face value of this coin is $15.
The 'W' Mint Mark set is
back for 2000!
I have just found out
that the Royal Canadian Mint released some Uncirculated sets with
the Winnipeg mint mark for the year 2000, I heard that the
Winnipeg mint only produced the set for a couple weeks in
January, but the production has been continued for the sets.
Coins
that have been released so far in 2000
The Royal Canadian Mint
has already released the 200 dollar gold coin which is for the
150th anniversary of the search for the North West Passage by
Robert McClure, the 100 dollar coin is 'Mother, Child, and Love'
for the last coin in the Inuit/Native series, the one dollar coin
depicts a maple leaf as a space ship, and there are lunar phases
near the word 2000. The Specimen set, Oh Canada! set, Tiny
Treasures set, and the Uncirculated set have been released.
The RCM has produced a special hologram $150 gold coin for the
Year of the Dragon, which is beautiful, there also has been a $15
coin issued for the Year of the Dragon. The Hockey coin has
also been issued with the Curling coin, and now there are only 2
more coins left in the series.

Closing Comments By Cody Lobreau
I have just found out that Bernard Bonin has retired as the
Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada.
He has retired on July 5, 1999. I heard that he was
retiring in the summer, but I wasn't sure when his signature was
to be replaced at the time.
His signature is already off the $5-$1000 notes and he is
replaced by Dr. Malcolm Knight.
Dr. Malcolm Knight is a Canadian born former worker for the
International Monetary Fund in Europe. His signature is the
11th of it's kind ever since the Bank of Canada's 64 year history
