1852 - 1913

The illustration here by Posada is titled "La nueva Bejarano" (the new Bejarano) This is an example one of the serious crime engravings he made for this sheet. The child torturer in this picture is being compared to Bejarano, a mexican criminal.
This is an example of one of the approches he took with love and romance. Usually a lot of the lovers are skeletons. But in this picture we see full, living people.
In this drawing we can observe the satirical side to his creativity
The title is "Calavera de Medero"
The picture he created in this broadside was meant to go along with the versus in the sheet. The sheet was about different types of trandesmen who end up as bones.
The character illustrated here was not so coincidentally characterized to look like the liberal presidential candidate, from the mustache, beard and the words found on the bottle he carries lets us know this. He is however dressed in lower class clothing. It shows here that Posada favors the lower class.
Calavera of Don Quijote
Don Quijote was also known as 'the first-class one','the matchless one', and 'the gigantic one.'
The broudside that this was printed with had versus warning people that Don would spare no one. The fact that Posada chooses to work with skeptons a lot and satirical monsters, it adds a lot more character and feeling.
