Before the rise of the Internet, speaking Scots was something generally done by consenting adults in private. However, the computer mediated communication the Internet offers a huge opportunity to bring existing speakers together and help learners practice their skills. A Scots language newsgroup scot.scots is available but alas many servers do not carry it, so traffic is sporadic. soc.culture.scottish also frequently carries debate about the languages of Scotland.
A new (Aug 1996) initiative is SCOTS-LANG, an Email discussion list. Email me for details of how to join.
