2 People 8 Ghosts I wrote a song based on this observation When two people are together there are eight ghosts present. There is A's view of A ----- B's view of B e.g. I'm pretty good person A's view of B ------ B's view of A e.g. I think he's a git A's view of how B sees A ----- B's view of how A sees B e.g. He thinks that I'm a git A's view of how B sees A's view of B ------B's view of how A sees B's view of A e.g. He thinks that I think he's a nice bloke If you count them you'll find there are eight perceptions and these are the eight potential ghosts. They are ghosts because who is the totally objective arbiter to declare which of these perceptions is correct? Before you argue that this doesn't apply to you, just remember that the personality is an idiosyncratic filtering system and not a neutral collector of information. As the great philosopher Paul Simon said 'Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.' If you accept that, you can then throw into that 'ghost' scenario some more people, the submissive / dominance nature of social relationships, the way that people tend to think in stereotypes and any other kind of psychological stuff you can think of, and you're left with.......a god awful mess. The song is called 'Ghostworld' and for about as long (Over 20 years) as I've been pondering about stuff like this I've been a songwriter and musician and the songs I've written being the emotional reaction to my personal intellectual discoveries. I would describe 'Ghostworld' as well recorded alternative pop in the REM, Talking Heads. Radiohead kind of mode, so if that's your bag check out the free downloadable full track or a 30 sec clip at http://www.geocities.com/clivegeeuk2000 You may view this as shameless self promotion or a desperate attempt for attention. I personally view it as both and whether you think it's good or bad I just want people to at least hear it. Even if you don't like the lyrical theme you can least appreciate the sincerity behind it and you might like the tune. Oh and one more thing, the ghosts in 'Ghostworld' have nothing with the spooky kind, because you might come to that conclusion due to the fact that a lot of my interests lie in that amorphous, unregulated thing called the paranormal.
Obese 3 year old died from a genetic defect I notice the BBC has just reported that the Obese girl they had previously reported about, died of a genetic defect that made her about 6 stone in weight when she died. The reason why the first report on this girl was a news story at all, was because it was part of a virtually self initiated media campaign on the dangers of obesity, which of course was backed up by scientific research. But what the BBC did was in the first report was to tell the world in effect that girl died because of overeating, iniiated by either greediness in the girl, or awful parenting in the family. This is what a lot of people do when they see a fat person. They assume they are either lazy or overeat or both. How dare the media and particularly the BBC, behave like that ! And why didn't they apologise ? They let the whole population think in the worst stereotyped way about a family who have just lost their daughter in the most distressing way. Where was their apology !!! Now I'm going to challenge the might of science and the media on this food/exercise/weight issue, by something from my own humble experience and by one simple piece of information. - I've known people who don't exercise, eat as much as they like and stay stick thin, in fact they complain they can't put the weight on, which they desire to do. The reality is, a lot of people don't like fat people, they simply find them aesthetically unappealling and so they always first associate them with unpleasant personality traits to justify their dislike. 'Overweight' people are the last socially acceptable scapegoats.
And the D in D DAY stands for.... I don't want to be disrespectful to the WW2 vets in any way but the amount of coverage for some reason on D Day's 60th anniversary seemed surprising it was like it happened only like 10 years ago. Why wasn't all this fuss on the usually more 'important' 50th ? There must be a lot of of 20 and even 30 year olds wondering where this D Day came from. We've had an across the board media overkill. It's just simply too much and really too late. I suppose it's just the media the way it is now with it's overkill mode to almost any news event that happens. But I've a feeling it may be more than that and is an attempt at social engineering spearheaded by the TV media (Which sees itself as the last respected institution) to create a sense of Britishness which is rapidly losing it's identity in this increasingly homogenous and corporate world, while of course filling up the airtime. Of course I could be wrong it's only a feeling after all. ........................Day, apparently.
