"The South in Pictures"

Winter on Opossum Creek

This picture was taken along Opossum Creek Road in Marble Hill, Missouri during the Winter of 2006. Opossum Creek Road used to be part of the Old Military Trail that ran from Jackson to Greenville, Missouri and was heavily traveled during the War Between the States. With the snow covering the pavement, one can imagine what it looked like back then.

Final Tribute

This picture was taken at a memorial service for Stephen Boutwell, Company H, 8th Missouri Confederate Cavalry who  is buried at the Morely, Missouri cemetery. Stephen's descendents from Oklahoma had ordered a headstone for him and arranged this wonderful service in May,2007. The most memorable thing about the service was how the City of Morely helped in organizing this event.

Missouri Sky

Taken May,2007, I stepped outside to a beautiful Missouri morning. There was a slight breeze in the air and the bluest of skies. It took several shots to get this picture but it was well worth the effort. The top flag is the Confederate Battle Flag, the flag flying below it is the Missouri Battle Flag.

Sunset in the Ozarks

Taken November, 2007. I can't take credit for this one, it was captured by my wife Michelle. We were on a family outing at "Elephant Rocks" state park, located near Pilot Knob, Missouri. It was formerly a rock quarry and is named because the boulders resemble a heard of elephants. There's nothing quite as beautiful as early Fall in Missouri.

Written in Stone

Taken June, 2008 at Stone Mountain, Georgia. I entitled it "Written in Stone" because at the park there is a memorial path that visitors can walk on and along the trail stands a monument and flag for each state that seceded from the Union and joined the Confederate States of America. The inscription reads: "MISSOURI SECEDED FROM THE UNION, OCTOBER 31,1861- ADMITTED TO CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA, NOVEMBER 28,1861"

Of course, the Missouri monument was placed before the rise of Political Correctness. Since then they have added a little wood sign that states Missouri and Kentucky were split and that Missouri was not readmitted to the Union after Reconstruction, because the Federal Government did not recognize its secession.

If this was the case then why did Missouri have to suffer through "Reconstruction"? Just remember, the TRUTH is always "Written in Stone".

The Inn

Taken June, 2008 at Stone Mountain, Georgia. From the front it looks very much like an antebellum home, to the side it more closely resembles your average hotel, a very nice place to stay though.
