BACKWATER HAWGS - FLY RECIPES

    CURRENT MONTH'S PATTERN
CLOUSER MINNOW

Fly fishing in the surf can be very productive method of catching fish and choosing the right fly is not very complicated .  A light colored bead-eyed clouser (deep clouser) is an easy to tie and effective fly for the surf.  The ease of tying makes it great for beginners.  As toothy critters in the surf often make off with your flies, tie a number of these before you venture into the water.  Colors can vary, but light colors often produce the best.  Be sure to use a good hook.

Who says you can only catch trout on a fly rod? This nice catfish was caught on a seaducer in the Blanco River. M Sharp

This is a highly effective fly for a variety of species in both fresh and salt water and very easy to tie.  My favorite color is chartreuse/white but red/white is a  close second.
