Winter rocks
The group of enthusiasts from among local mountaineers for own pleasure regularly in a
weekend (Saturday and Sunday) makes trainings on rocks 'Sheehan' (Russia).
In December we begin trainings the winter period (winter rock-climbing, dry-tooling,
ice-tooling). Winter trainings are very useful to mountaineers doing preparation
for summer and winter ascent in high mountains (Caucasus, the Alps)
on the mixed routes of 3 categories of complexity (class) and is higher.
We invite to our trainings of all interested persons. Those, who love winter rocks and
beginners, which want to learn rock-climbing. On our trainings, absolutely
free-of-charge, you can take to use of all our equipment. We shall help you
advice at a choice and passage of a route, and as with the organization of the
safe insurance. For the coordination of date you beforehand should inform us
about your desire to participate in trainings.
Height of rocks 'Sheehan' from 15 meters (50 ft) up to 30-40 meters (100-130 ft). Length of a rocky
crest of 2 kilometers (1,2 miles).
Length of a rocky crest in height of 30 meters (100 ft) more than 1 kilometer (0,6 miles).
Rocks are a monolithic large-block, coarse-grained granite. Is present
more than 200 routes from 4A up to 8C (5.5 - 5.14). There are 30 routes equipped by bolts from 5� up to 7B + (5.7 -
5.12c). The small height of rocks easily allows organizing the reliable and
safe insurance from above (top-rope belay). The insurance from above allows to
train, not being afraid of falling, having concentrated all attention to
engineering of movement.
Winter trainings are made with use of the ice tools and crampons
In the winter snow-covered rocks 'Sheehan' correspond to real summer routes in high
mountains (above 3000 meters, 10000 ft).
So rocks 'Sheehan', North crest, December, 14, 2006 looked. In
January and February of snow becomes more.
Location.
Rocks 'Sheehan' Russia, the Chelyabinsk area, Ufalejsky area, railway station the
Seelach. From station the Seelach in the east in 5
kilometers (3 miles) rocks 'Sheehan' are well visible. The
track to them goes through a forest.
Residing and meal.
Near to rocks there are no houses, cafe, shops and toilets. To live near rocks it is
possible only in tents. It is necessary to prepare for food on own torches or
on a campfire. Wood for a campfire should be prepared from dry trees in a
forest (400 m, 1300 ft). For preparation of wood is used the two-manual saw and an axe (cost of a saw
and an axe - 20 euros). Water for preparation of food takes from a pure spring.
The spring is in 0,8 kilometers (0,5 miles) from camp. The list of the camp

The prices in this table and in all others are specified approximate for our region. As a
parameter of quality only. For your region of the price can differ from
specified.
For 3-5 euros per day from the person it is possible to rent the heated house in the
nearest villages. Up to village the Seelach of 5 kms (3 miles). Up to village Arakul'
of 3,3 kms (2 miles). In the winter the light part of day
proceeds 7 hours (9:30 - 16:30). A way from settlement up to rocks 2 hours. 2
hours back. Only 3 hours remains for training. Therefore we recommend living
under rocks. Then it is possible to train 7-8 hours.
Temperature and clothes.
In the winter average temperature -10�C ... -15�C (+14�F ... +5�F) in the afternoon
and -15�C ... -20�C (+5�F ... -4�F) at night.
Sometimes, but seldom there is a downturn up to -20�C ... -30�C (-4�F ... -22�F). In such
conditions the warm clothes and footwear is required. For example, such:

Cost of trainings.
Attention! It is very important! We are not the commercial organization. We do not make
business. We train for own pleasure and it is not difficult for us to help
colleagues or all other amateurs of rocks and a nature. We do not make
difference between rock-climbers, tourists and simply holiday-makers. If they
wish to participate in our training - we shall help them with it.
If you, on a weekend, independently will arrive on rocks we absolutely free-of-charge
shall help you:
- To choose a place and to install tents.
- To prepare wood for a campfire and to build a campfire.
- To prepare water from a spring.
- To prepare for food.
- To choose a route and to organize the reliable and safe insurance from above.
- To organize training.
- To contact to local population.
Absolutely free-of-charge you can use equipment available at us. We render you any help
and consultations.
Unfortunately,
we can not organize training more than two days in a weekend. For us training -
rest and between weekends all of us are on a permanent job which is not
relation to rocks. However we understand, that people who have arrived from a
long away, will want to train more than two days. Then you can continue your
trainings independently - without our presence.
