Updated! after trip
Over *** hike
This is a rough path, probably overgrown in places and not easy to find.
[got that spot on]
The mountain looks wild and unspoilt, as there is little access. There’s
a good chance of seeing wild animals here
(Boar, monkey, bear and kamoshika...not this
time)
Because many people don’t have a tent and there is nowhere to stay,
I would like to sleep outside on this trip.
All you need is a sleeping bag and a "survival bag......see
pictures", in case of rain
-usually a large (1.5*2.5m) orange colored plastic bag, which you can
get in if injured, or the weather is bad.
You can buy them in most outdoor shops for about 500 yen.
If you want you can take a tent but sleeping out sounds more interesting,
it isn’t so cold and you can travel light.
The trip might be cancelled if the weather looks bad!
Saturday 19th
Meet at siebu ikebukero station 7am front (
back ) end of platform
Take the 7.16 am rapid/kaisoku train to mitsumine-guchi (chichibu) direct
Arrive 9.30am ............................
(You can have soba breakfast next to the bus stop)
..............................Then take the bus to chichibu-ko lake 09.42
Change bus again to kawamata .........10.15
Start hiking by 11 am
sleep at the top .......found a very nice
spot near a stream about 4.30pm
Just got everything set up when it started
raining (murphy's law),
anyway it turned out to be just a heavy shower
.
Got a fire going after dinner and i enjoyed
watching the stars at bedtime.
Only 1 problem... nosy deer whistling in the
middle of the night.
Sunday 20th
Plan changed-too far to okutama so decided
to return to mitsumineguchi
on another path to chichibuko dam or........through
forest along ridge.
Actually took the forest route as there
was a rough (rindou) path.
This went down to kumatori rin dou (road)....with
a long walk out to chichibuko.
An IAC member desperate for a bath and tired
from walking on the paved road,
waved down a car and begged them to give us a
lift.... couldnt really refuse, could they?
Hike back towards okutama and have [ no time for
] a bath if you like
Finish by 3 or 4pm [6pm]
Train back to Tokyo
What you need
General hiking gear, rainwear, good sleeping bag, mattress if you have
one, survival bag or tent
Food and plenty of water (and stuff for a bath? )
Insect spray wont be needed........... I think.
