Charles Robert Slater Sr. March 9, 1950
Charles Robert Slater Sr., 47, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 1997 at his home.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Chippewa United Indian Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Sprague officiating. Burial will be in Midland County's Kelly Cemetery.

Friends may call at the home of 7362 E. Tomah Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.

Charles was born March 9, 1950 in Allegan County, the son of Ellsworth and Elta Slater. He married Juanita Elise Chamberlain on June 14, 1969 in Mt. Pleasant.

He was a life long resident of the area. Charles was a mobile home builder for three years, worked at Cross Roofing for three years and at Schlumberger Well Service for six years. He was a member of the Indian Methodist Church. Charles enjoyed working on old cars, gun collecting and furniture making.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Slater of Mt. Pleasant; children, Charles Slater Jr. and Jennifer Slater, both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Phoenix Christian; brother, Bill (Kathy) Castle of Grand Rapids; and sister, Mary Ellen (Carl) Ames of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Jamie Lee Slater; and several brothers and sisters.

Ellsworth F. Slater, 59, Rt. 4, Chippewa Road, died Saturday, Mrch 23, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

He was born May 11, 1914. He had worked as maintenance man for Detroit Mobile Homes.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Stinson Funeral Home, Rev. Roger Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Kelly Cemetery in Oil City.

He is survived by his wife, Elta; two children, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Ames and Charles Slater, both of Mount Pleasant; one brother, George Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Mrs Chrystal Burgess, Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Elaine Sodeman, Flint, and Mrs. Alice Shultz, Florida; and seven grand-children.

Elta Helen Slater, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, July 29, 1989, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stinson-Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Richard Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Kelly Cemetery in Midland County.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Slater was born June 18, 1911, in Manton. She was the daughter of the late Glen Harrison and Mary Melissa (Richards) Brown. She married Ellsworth Freeman Slater Sept. 18, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death in 1974.

Mrs. Slater lived most of her life in Mt. Pleasant and was a homemaker. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ames of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Charles Slater of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two half brothers and four half sisters. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Slater was preceded in death by a brother, Laurel Brown.

Emma Slater, 54, 5371 Kay, died Oct. 29 [1974] at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

A life time resident of the area she was born April 25, 1920 in Isabella County. She was a member of the Alma Wesleyan Church and former president of the Women�s Christian Temperance Union.

Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Stinson Funeral Home, Rev. Gerald Heyd officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, George; 10 children, Alan, North Star; Mrs. Donald (Lorraine) Sharp, Baldwin Park, Calif.; Mrs. Fred (Bonnie) Cantu, Kaleva; Mrs. David (Colleen) Sisco, Barryton; Gerald, Mayport, Fla.; Mrs. L.E. (Helen) Reed, Mrs. M. (Sharon) Mathews, Mount Pleasant; and George, Sandra and Kelly at home.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Christine Graveratte, Saginaw, Mrs. Betsey Hall, Mrs. Theresa Flacon and Mrs. Judy Floyd, all of Mount Pleasant; and three brothers, Floyd, Gerald and Phillip Peters, Mount Pleasant.

Friends may call after 3:30 Wednesday.

Freeman Elmer Slater Brief funeral services for Freeman Elmer Slater, two day old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Slater, of Mt. Pleasant who died Thursday, Mar 16, were held Friday afternoon at one o'clock at the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Slater Sr, on Belknap Street with Reverend Mayhew and Reverend Breman officiating. Burial was made in Woodlawn cemetery in Rosebush.

Freeman Elroy Slater, son of Allen and Lucy Slater, was born in Clinton County, Michigan, June 18, 1877 and departed this life September 25, 1937 at the age of 60 years, 3 months and 7 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Alta Bailey of Sears, Michigan, November 16, 1907. To this union were born four children, a son, Howard dying in infancy.

Mr. Slater was converted 26 years ago in Riverton, Mason County and joined the Evangelical church at that place, then later moved to Evart, where he, with his wife, transferred their church membership. He remained a firm believer and trusted his Master to the end.

He with his family have lived in Mt. Pleasant the past 12 years, ad he worked at painting and decorating.

He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows about six years ago, many of the members attended the funeral in a body.

Mr. Slater leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alta, one daughter, Mabel and one son, Leonard, both at home and one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Geeck of Clare, two brothers, Frank of Midland, and George of Mt. Pleasant, one sister Mrs. Jennie Bergey of Clare, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Slater was stricken ill while at work last Wednesday and passed away at General hospital Saturday morning, funeral took place at the Church of Christ Tuesday p.m. with Rev. H. Curch in charge. Services at the cemetery were in charge of the I.O.O.F.

Mr. Slater was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother and Everybody�s friend which is proven by the abundance of flowers ad large attendance at the funeral.

George A. Slater, 66, of Muskegon, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 1983 at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon.

Services are scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the West Shore Christian Fellowship in Muskegon with the Rev. William McPhail officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Achterhoff Mortuary in Muskegon.

Mr. Slater was born Sept 28, 1917 in Evart to George Sr. and Cora Bayley Slater. He was married in Mt. Pleasant in 1934 to Emma Peters. She preceded him in death in 1974. He married Doris Chase Campbell, who survives in 1976.

Mr. Slater was a retired custodian; he worked for Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. He was a resident of Muskegon for seven years and a deacon in the West Shore Christian Fellowship in Muskegon.

Surviving are his 11 daughters, Helen Reed and Bonnie Cantu of Mt. Pleasant, Lorriane Sharp of Muskegon, Sharon Matthews of Shepherd, Sanday Boyce of Alma, Coleen Sisco of Weidman, Judy Dolan of Stuart, Fla., Bonnie Sterling, of Weidman, Debra Elliott, Pamela Campbell and Kelly Slater of North Shores; three sons, Allen Slater of Lansing, Jerry and George Slater III of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Alice Shultz of Orlando Fla., Elaine Gundry of Flushing and Chrystal Burgess of Mt. Pleasant; 35 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

George Allen Slater, Sr., 67, retired interior painter and decorator, died June 23 at the family residence, 1113 West Packard. He had been ill for 3 1/2 years.

Mr. Slater was born July 8, 1883 in Clinton County, Michigan, the son of Allen and Lucy Winter Slater. At the age of about 12, he moved with his parents to Coleman. Later the family moved to Marion and Chippewa Station. At Chippewa Station, he met and married Miss Cora Bailey. The couple was wed on May of 1910. They made their home in Evart until 1924 when they came to Mt. Pleasant to reside.

Mr. Slater was engaged in the interior painting and decorating business from then until his illness forced him to retire. He had been an active church worker from the age of 19 years. Mr. Slater had a major part in the building of Westside Nazarene Church and the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife Cora; three daughters, Mrs. Crystal Burgess of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Alice Shultz of Zaneville, Ohio and Mrs. Elaine Sodeman of South Zaneville, Ohio; two sons, Ellsworth Slater and George Slater Jr., both of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Frank Slater of Midland and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Weslayan Methodist Church, 1300 East Pickard with burial in Riverside Cemetery. The body will rest in Stinson Funeral Home until service time. The reverend M. L. Shultz of Zaneville, Ohio, a son-in-law of Mr. Slater will officiate at the service assisted by Rev. Stanley S. Kirn and Rev. Kenneth Fish.

Jamie Lee Slater, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Slater, Mount Pleasant, died Aug. 7 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. He had been ill three weeks.

He was born May 14, 1976, in Mount Pleasant.

He is survived by his parents, a brother, Charles Jr. and a sister, Jennifer both at home; grandmother, Mrs. Elta Slater, Mount Pleasant; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chamberlain, Mount Pleasant; great grandmother, Mrs. Elsie Luscher, Mount Pleasant, and godparents, Mr and Mrs. Dennis Kequom, Mount Pleasant.

Funeral services were this afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Stinson Funeral Home, Rev. Josseph Sprague officiating. Burial was in Kelly Cemetery, Midland County.

Jeramy Dean Slater Feb. 3, 1978 - July 15, 1999

Jeramy Dean Slater, 21, of Stanwood, Mich. died Thursday, July 15, 1999 as a result of an auto accident.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1999 at Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen Whitepigeon and the Rev. Richard Boyce officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery i Rosebush.

Friends may call at the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 17, after 1 p.m. and on Sunday, July 18, after 1 p.m. There will be wake service Sunday at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.

Jeramy was born Feb. 3, 1978 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Gerald D. and Lois (Saladine) Slater. He was engaged to be married to Jennel Sterling.

Jeramy worked as a mason for George Fussman Masonry for three years. He was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Jeramy loved golfing and his work.

He is survived by his fiancee, Jennel Sterling of Stanwood; his mother, Lois Saladine of McMinnville, Tenn.; his father, Gerald D. Slater and Patricia Peters of Mt. Pleasant; his future in-laws, Keith and Claudia Sterling of Stanwood; his grandfather, Fred Saladine of Bay City; his sister, Stephanie Slater of Mt. Pleasant; his nephew, Leo Bennett III; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emma and George Slater, Sr.; great-grandparents Helen and James Peters; and nephew, Skylar Slater-Bennett.

Leonard Slater Funeral Rites set for Tuesday

Leonard E. Slater, 314 N. College died July 9 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. He was born on January 28, 1916 in Mason County, Mich. He had been a custodian at the MT. Pleasant post office.

On Tuesday, July 12, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City.

Rosary service will be held tonight at 8 p.m. in the J. J. Rush Funeral Home.

Surviving Mr. Slater are: a son Kenneth; three daughters, Atoinette, Charlotte and Denise; his mother, Mrs. Alta Slater of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Mable Castor of Arkansas, Mrs. Beulah Geeck of Arizona and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Luther Slater passed away this morning at the home of her son, George, on North Main Street. Mrs. Slater was 77 years of age and had been ill about ten days. The funeral will take place Sunday.

Article Published in Mt. Pleasant Times March 28, 1929 reads: "Mr. and Mrs. Starrie Harsh attended the funeral of Mrs. Lucy Slater, at Mt. Pleasant, Sunday.

(I am thinking the obituary stating Luther is actually a typo for Lucy. Unless her husband Allen sometimes used the name Luther. I have never seen it written as Luther. On all census records and children's obituaries it says Allen.)
