McClain-Alma E. Lawton was born in Fowler, New York, June 17, 1839, and died at the home of her adopted daughter, Mrs. George Brown, at Benton Harbor, March 2, 1917. he came to Michigan with her parents when she was eleven years of age. She was married to R.S. McClain December 18, 1859; was converted in 1869 in Colfax, and joined the Free Methodist Church in 1870, and was a faithful, devoted Christian to the end.
She leaves to mourn their loss, four brothers, Lyman P., Chas. B., George A., and Malvin R. Lawton; one step-brother, F.W. Turner and one sister, Mrs. C.O. Smith besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Her remains were brought to Coopersville and the funeral was held in the Free Methodist Church, Rev G. W. Cappy officiating. She was laid to rest in the Coopersville cemetery beside her husband, who died June 9, 1909.

Alton L. McClain, age 67, died Tuesday, Oct 21, 1941 at the residence on Stanley Rd., Genesee. Prayer services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, 1941 at 7133 Russell Ave., Genesee, and funeral service at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist church in Genesee, Rev. E.A. Smith officiating. Surviving are: Three sons, Ethro, George, Alton Jr. two daughters, Martha and Rosa, all at home.

Coger Francis McClain died Wednesday, Oct 5, 1994 in Mount Pleasant following a lengthy illness. He was 80. Mr. McClain was bon May 15, 1914 in Sherman, he married Katherince Laura Kidd Nov 27, 1952. He worked as a truck driver for 22 years and 18 years with Chevrolet Manufacturing. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge 428 in Montrose. Mr. McClain enjoyed traveling and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Katherine, four sons: Lewis Gordon and wife Pamela McClain of Lennon; Leland Albert McClain of Clare; David Arthur and wife Deb of Harrison, and James Ira and his wife Cindy McClain of Mount Pleasant; three daughters: Sharon Cottrell of Las Vegas, NV; Mrs. (Mike) Francis Egan of Flint and Mrs. (Ron) Rosan Polk of Montrose; two brothers; Ira and wife Marion McClain of Davison, and Ralph McClain of Manton; three sisters: Beth Westfall of Montrose, Beatrice Ward of Owosso and MRs. (Lee) Patricia Sorenson of Mt. Morris; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. McClain was preceded in death by his mother Ada, father Lewis, brother Winifred Hessam and sister Lorena Emrey.
Funeral Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at the King Funeral Home in Mesick, with pastor Orson D. Deemer officiating. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Saturday. Burial will be at the Antioch Cemetery.

McClain, David L., Sr. - Of Mount Morris, age 48, died Tuesday, March 22, 1994 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, March 25, 1994 at the Montrose Chapel of Whipple Funeral Homes, 239 E. Hickory St. in Montrose, Rev. Paul Castle officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. David was born in Flint, MI September 10, 1945, the son of Ellsworth H. and Norma Belle (Taylor) McClain.
He had resided in the Flint area most of his life. He was employed by General Motors SPO Division for the past 30 years and was a member of UAW Local #659. He loved hunting, fishing and was a big fan of Elvis Presley.

Pleasant; 4 brothers, Ellsworth and wife Cheryl of Burton, Jerry and wife Doris of Burton, William and wife Sharon of Chesaning, and Cecil of Flint; 3 sisters, Elvira and husband Ken Jones of Clio, Goldie Franz of Vassar, and Norma Jean and husband Richard Nelson of Newberry; 8 grandchildren, Lauralee, Kathy, Ericlee, Samantha, Tabatha, Davin, Maranda, and Orry; fiance; Marcia Strong of Durand; several aunts and uncles.

McCLAIN, Elizabeth J. - Age 85, of Maineville, Ohio, formerly of Swartz Creek, died February 15, 2007 in Ohio. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, February 19 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek, Fr. Amos Wischmeyer celebrant. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Sunday.

Elizabeth was born January 12, 1922 in Flint, the daughter of Jerry and Mary (Covert) Gibbons. She was a 1940 graduate of Flushing High School. She married Ethro C. McClain in 1950; he preceded her in death in 1985. Prior to moving to Ohio six years ago, she had resided in Swartz Creek for many years. She was a former member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, and currently a member of St. Suzanne Catholic Church in Mason, OH.
Mrs. McClain is survived by: her daughter Melinda Marie and husband Stephen Strobehn of Maineville, OH; grandchildren, Bryan and Malina Strobehn; two brothers, Jerry and wife Virginia Gibbons of Swartz Creek, Gerald and wife Maxine Gibbons of Mason, OH; several nieces and nephews.

George was born April 16, 1925 in Genesee, Michigan, the son of the late Alton and Mary (Shiebel) McClain.
George married Ellen A. Blakeley, January 21, 2000 in Brooksville, FL. He was employed with Buick for 31 1/2 years, retiring in 1974. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Surviving are: wife, Ellen; children, sandy and husband Jim Fortin of Houghton Lake, Richard and wife Dawn McClain of Frankenmuth, Wayne and wife Sheryl McClain of Clio, Mary and husband Jim Blakeley of Menominee, MI; 11 step-children, 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister Martha Long of Burton; numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his first wife Helen McClain in 1977 and second wife, Darleen McClain in 1994; 2 brothers, Ethro (Zeke) McClain and Alton (Doc) McClain and sister, Rosa Huber.
Mrs. H. McClain Passes on in Flint. Custer Mrs. Jesse Barrett received word Thursday of the death of Mrs. Hattie Barrett McClain who passed away at Flint Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. McClain underwent a major operation during the winter from which she never recovered.
Hattie Barrett was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Barrett, settlers of South Custer, later moving to the village. Mr. McClain passed away several years ago.
She is survived by six sons and one daughter, Claude, Harry, Verne, Leonard, Alfred, Howard and Mrs. Clarebelle Willouhr and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Congregational church in Custer Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Custer cemetery.

McCLAIN, Ira - Of Davison, age 88, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Brian`s House Hospice in Davison. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. Third St., Davison, Pastor P. Thomas Wachterhauser and Pastor Daniel Wallace officiating. The family will receive visitors at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 E. Davison Rd., Davison, 2-4 and 6-9 both Monday and Tuesday, and at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Mr. McClain was born August 23, 1916, in Mesick, MI, son of the late Lewis and Ada (Coger) McClain. He married Marion Campau January 25, 1941. He was a member of Davison United Methodist Church, a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 13 years and a Detroit Tigers fan. Ira retired from AC in 1974 after 31 years of service.
He is survived by: his wife, Marion; sons, Frederick (Bonnie) and Robert (Linda); granchildren, Michele (Bart) Mounteer of Heber, UT, Stephanie McClain (fiance Brad Hempton) of Otisville and Todd (Anneke) McClain of Fort Worth, TX; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beth Westfall, Beatrice Ward and Pat (Lee) Sorensen; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Rena and brothers Winifred, Coger and Ralph.

Mrs. Mary Scheibel McClain, 43 years old, a resident of Genesee, during the last 27 years, died Friday at her home after an illness of one week. She was born in Huron Co, Sept 1, 1888, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Scheibel. She was married to Alton McClain at Genesee. She was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church and the Ladies Aid society.
Surviving are her husband, three daughters Etherl, Martha, Rosa, and two sons George and Alton Jr, all at home; two brothers Charles of Genesee, and John of Rochester, N.Y. and one sister, Mrs. Martha Horn of Genesee.

Ralph E. McClain died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 at his sons residence in Manton. Mr. McClain was born June 30, 1928 in Flint to Lewis H. and Ada (Coger) McClain. He married Doris Christensen in January of 1950.
Mr. McClain lived in Michigan and Florida until his retirement in 1985. He began his career at Buick Motor Division and later worked at Western and Southern Insurance. He attended Michigan State University. Mr. McClain will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, family storytelling and his hobby of genealogy research into his Scottish ancestry.
Survivors include his sons, Edward (Diane) of Grand Blanc and Carl (Lisa) of Davison; daughters, Irene (Ted) Rouster of Belleville, Susan (Alex) Csiki and Barbara McClain of Flint; sisters, Beth Westfall of Alma, Ira (Marion) McClain of Davison, Beatrice Ward of Owosso and Pat (Lee) Sorenson of Mount Morris; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Winnie Hessam of Clarkston and Coger of Clair; and sister, Rena Emory of Key Largo, Fla.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home, 1616 Davison Road in Flint, with the Rev. Paul T. Wachterhauser officiating. Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park. Luncheon will be served following burial at Davison United Methodist Church, Davison Road. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rascelas S. McClain was born in the town of Lincoln, Ohio, June 22nd, 1832. He was married to Sarah Irish Sept. 11, 1851. To them was born three sons; two of them still living. His first wife died Feb. 25, 1857 and Dec. 18, 1859, he was married to Alma E. Lawton, who survives him.
He enlisted in Co. C. 1st U. S. Sharpshooters Aug. 21, 1861 at Detroit, mustered Aug. 26, 1861, promoted corporal, wounded in action at Chancellorsville, Va., May 3rd, 1863, was discharged at Fairfax, Va., Feb. 21, 1864 on account of gun shot would on the right arm, received in action at Locust Grove, Va., Nov. 27, 1863.
He was converted in 1869 and in 1870 joined the Free Methodist church and lived a faithful and consistent Christian life until the end, which came after four weeks illness, June 9th, 1909 at his residence in Coopersville, Mich.
The funeral was held at the F. M. church June 13, Rev. S. W. Ingalls officiating.

Ruth May McClain, five years old, died yesterday, at Genesee from meningitis after an illness of several months. She was born at Genesee March 10, 1924.
Besides her parents she leaves two sisters Martha and Rosa and two brothers Ethro and George, all at home.

William McLean son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton McLean of Genesee Twp, died Wednesday of complications of diseases after illness of three months. He is survived by his parents three brothers Ethro, George and Alton; and two sisters Martha and Rosa.
