ISLAMABAD — Swedish climbers arrived in capital after an unsuccessful bid on Broad Peak 8047 metres.

The Swede team tried for making the first Swedish ascent besides doing a variation on the peak from the South South West Ridge.

The two groups in the team attempted from two different sides.

Thirty-eight year old Roger Reinhold leader of the expedition along with Jens-Victor Palm (25) managed to reach 7700 metres on July 9 from the normal route while the other team members who were climbing from the South South West Ridge abandoned the climb due to bad snow conditions and avalanches at 7000 metres on July 8.

Christian Edelstam (29), Carl Lundberg (28), Tomas Lagerfelt (28), Mike Wright (29) and Magnus Anderson (28) were climbing the peak to make the new route which still remains an unclimbed line in the 8000ers on the South South West Ridge.

All the climbers were visiting Pakistan for the first time.

The team made Base Camp at 5000 metres, Camp 1 at 5600 metres, Camp 2 at 6200 metres, Camp 3 at 6950 metres.
